700r4 tranny problems
My 91 RS is not shifting properly. it revs up way too high then launches forward. is my tranny going bad? do i need to adjust something? i checked the tranny fluid and its good. I never let it run low. Any ideas?
Thank you!

Re: 700r4 tranny problems
what do you mean by revs up real high and lurches forward. is this from a stand still. or does it just rev high in normal driving and then slam into gear?
If it is the first where it revs and then slams into gear from a stop and pushes you forward, tranny rebuild time.. it basically is building up preassure and then when it has enough it engages... few different causes. none of them nice.
2nd one. could be a TV cable misadjustment, or if that is adjusted right and properly, then chances are the trans is going out then too...
Quick question though.. Is this on the stock engine. or have you put a different fuel delivery on it like say a holley carb?

Re: 700r4 tranny problems
Mine shifts hard after I put my holley carb on. At first when the motor was cold, the tires would cirp when shifting but that went away. It still shifts hard. I removed the vaccum for the tranny and it shifted normal again, but I hooked it back up.

Re: 700r4 tranny problems
i just took mine to get rebuilt and it cost me $1200 parts and labor. mine was doing the same thing then the transmission just went out on my way to work i still had reverse so i said oh well and backed it all the way to my house if i were you i would get it fixed as soon as possible or you might be doing what i did to get to your house.

Re: 700r4 tranny problems
with the slamming into gear it could most definitely be the TV cable not adjusted right or not having the right geometry with a holley carb in place. You need a few parts like the 20-121 bracket. without that little bracket (or the one for 700r4.com) you will burn the trans up pretty quick (few thousand miles at most,) Just because it is hooked up to the carb without that it is really pulling it out of wack and can not be adjusted. Pretty common error with that carb I guess. people just throw them on and try to go.. with a manual car you can. but not with the 700r4 trans.

Re: 700r4 tranny problems
I am having a problem kind of like this one. My transmission revs up extreamly high between shifts about 6,000 rpm but thats only when I am at WOT if im driving normal its fine. Do I need to adjust the TV cable and if so how do I do it?
