Where to put transmission temp sender?

I was going to tap into a line running to a cooler but I think it'd be better to measure the temp in the transmission pan. It could probably double as a hole to drain the fluid if its at the bottom of the side of the pan. Any comments from someone familiar with transmissions? Good idea/ bad idea?

Bang a hole in the ban, if you have room, and use a drain plug kit. The center is a 1/8 npt thread, and the sender will usually screw right in. I have done quite a few with no trouble.

I drilled a hole in the pan and tacked a weld nut on the inside.

Re: Where to put transmission temp sender?

We used a drain plug kit for the sender we put into the 82.
just make sure that there is clearance for the sender so it doesn't hit the valvebody.

Yeah that's my plan, I already have the parts.
