Transmission change with out a lift?
I am thinking about getting a transmission from pro-built. The question I have is can I change it out with out a lift? Will ramps get the car high enough to do this? Any advice? Thanks!

Yep. Ramps, or a jack and jackstands. You'll want a friend to help, they are pretty heavy to line up in there.

Stands are better than ramps - get the front of the car as high up as you can, yank off one or other front wheel, and you can just barely get the large part of tranny (bellhousing) slid out through the wheel well (may have to turn the wheel some so bellhousing clears disc brake).
With the car on ramps, there's not as much clearance as jacking, and you can't remove the wheel (it's on the ramp) to clear the bellhousing.

not to be ignorant,, don't forget to remove the distributor and the top 2 bell housing bolts. This is easier done before you jack up the car.

Thanks bad, thats just the advice I was looking for. I have a small roll around floor jack. Should I put that under the transmission too? Or is there not enough room? Thanks again!

If you are doing it yourself it will definitely come in handy, you can use a block of wood to support the trans on the jack. Once you have the trans loose start to lower it down you will want to disconnect the cooler lines and TV cable when you have it about 1/4th the way down, then you can lower the trans all the way down. You will have to slide the trans off of the jack to get it out from under the car. Watch out for the converter falling out of the trans when your sliding it off of the jack, if it falls out it will make one heck of a mess.

you might want to have one of those ratcheting tie-downs handy, to secure the trans to the jack pad, somehow, otherwise, it's prone to slide off at the most unexpected time.
been there, done that. fell on my arm. that hurt for a while.
