Spedometer gear change

I have a 1989 Firebird Formula with a 700R4 transmission and a 3.27 rear end. My previous gear was a 2.73 so now my speedometer reads wrong. This car has the electronic sensor (VSS). What driven gear do I need to change to to make the speed accurate? I think I need a 43 tooth driven and a 17 tooth drive gear. My tires are stock 245/50/16. Where do I get the correct gears for the VSS? And what part numbers if GM still makes them. Also does anything change with the VSS sensor housing?

Thanks,
Mark

Re: Spedometer gear change

Your car probably had a 17 and 37 in it to start with. If you want to keep the 17 tooth drive gear, a 44 is the correct match for driven.
If you're cheap (and since you're asking on the board, I'm guessing you are...) then you're going to want to switch to a 15 tooth drive and a 39 tooth driven. This will eliminate the need to switch sleeves, which is the most expensive part.
As for gettting the parts, call up the parts dept at your local gm dealer. Otherwise, check out www.jagsthatrun.com they were cheaper than gm for my stuff.
