9 bolt question, leaking pinion seal

Well I just got my 9 bolt back together but when i when to tighten the pinion nut, the yoke does not go in fully to the seal. I have about 3/8" to go before until the yoke is fully seated into the seal. I filled it up with oil anyway and drove around for a bit. sure enough it leaks. What is preventing yoke from fully seating into the seal? do i have the wrong crush sleeve installed?

Re: 9 bolt question, leaking pinion seal

well I took the seal off to make sure my yoke was pressing up against the bearing. It does contact the bearing however no matter how hard i tighten the nut I do not get hardly any preload. In fact there is still considerable amount of lateral movement left in the rear bearing despite the nut being super tight. I think I have an incorrect pinion installed. Did they make different length pinions for these rears? Or perhaps I was given a 10bolt pinion by mistake? What else could causing this problem?
