Re: tranny question
if the carb 350 is relatively stock and you get the World Class version of the t-5 it will probably hold for a good long time. The problem with the stock t-5's is if you put sticky tires or just get really good traction on a launch the amount of torque through the trans will actually break the casing.
i know of cars into the low 12's with t-5's and as long as you dont completly abuse them they can last a long time.
Otherwise your only stick opetions are a t-56, or a modified tremec tko-600.
the only place that sells the tko-600 modified for our cars is fortesparts.com. You can order from 5speedtransmissions.com or one or two other sites but it all comes from fortes so you might as well order directly from them.
basically they use the ford version of the trans (comes in GM and FORD) because the ford already has the right length input shaft for our application, there is a 1" spacer between the trans and bellhousing that adapts to the GM bolt pattern and it bolts right up to a t-5 bellhousing. Although a scattershield (blow proof bellhousing, lakewood and mcleod make them) is reccomended for any high perf application encase a clutch explodes.
