Not shifting properly

On my 91 RS when I floor it on open road sometimes it will go all the way top the red line and stay there until i let off the gas then it will shift. What is wrong?

Sorry for the bad news but sounds like your clutches are sliping and it is time for a rebuild.

Is this it? How much would this cost me and how/should I upgrade?

What gear are you in when it does this and what gear are you waiting for it to shift into?

If you are in 3rd gear at WOT and waiting for 4th, it won't happen unless you upgrade your valvebody.

It usually does, if not always, happens when going from 3rd to 4th. If I upgrade my valve body (how much?) will I still need to have clutch work done. Thanks for the help.

your problem is most likely in the upshift valve of your valve body. the b&m transpak kit should include all the parts to fix it,
the kit costs around $60 plus you'll need trans fluid
