T56 speedometer hookup for cable driven speedo?

Ive read thru all the articles that I can find on the swap. It helped my get mine in. Now I need to consider the speedometer. Is JAGS that run the only place I can go to convert my cable driven speedo to a T56? Also, what about the signal going to the ECM telling it how fast Im going. I have that connector dangling at the moment. Do I need to give it a home?

Thanks

I have the www.JagsThatRun.com T-56 tailhousing and it works great. It is however a bit of a PITA to install. I bought mine in Nov. 1998 for $295 + $250 core charge. To tell you the truth, it is BEST DONE withthe TRANNY REMOVED. You have to remove the shifter, use a small punch and tap down the roll pin that holds the shifter socket on the shift rod. Remove that, remove the bolts that holds the tailhousing on the gearbox, remove the old tailhousing, transfer all of your part from the old housing, into the new housing. The hard part is really REMOVING THE C-CLIP type retainer that hold the VSS reluctor on the outputshaft. Thsi took over an hour since conventional C-CLIP tools don't work well on this retainer. The other troublesome part is tapping out the outputshaft BEARING RACE and installing it in the new housing. BE VERY CAREFULL WITH THE ((3)) TORX head bolts that holds the REVERSE IDLER GEAR to the housing, they can easily strip out if torqued to much. You will have to tell JTR what year tranny you have since there are ((2)) different type housing. You will see what I'm talking about when you check-out their site. About the VSS to the ECM, I have a 90-92 SD system in my 88 Monte SS, and I just used a Speed Density compatible MECHANICAL INPUT VSS sensor that is driven by the SPEEDO cable also. It does work FLAWLESSLY, I would highly suggest it, other than the hassles of the install. HTH's

Maybe you should consider using the CABLE X this thing will convert the electrical signal from the VSS to mechanical driven speedo and there is some dip switch inside the box so you can adjust the speedo for any gear ratio, tire diameter you can imagine.
That is what I bought for my swap. The web site is www.abbott-tach.com look under products for cable X and you will see what you need.

Hey IRACE. I emailed you. I saw you talking about this in the archives. Have you installed yours? Just wondering how well its working. Also, how did you handle you speed sensor plug that was in the 700R4?

The plug you're taling about is probably the Torque Convertor Clutch plug. It should be a 4 pin plug, and I think it also tell the ECM when you're in 3rd and 4th gears. You should be able to leave it dangling, or actually, you may want to tie it up to something.

The ECM should get the speed info from the back of the speedo, so when you get it spinning, the computer shoud see it too!

Sorry lock, I'm not at home right now so I didn't see your email. I did install mine and it's mounted under the dash on the passenger side but I didn't have a chance to try it yet because I'm not done wiring my trunk mounted batterie (there is a self test that can be done to test it without having to drive the car). And the plug you're talking about JP84Z430HP is right about leaving it dangling it's for the TC lock-up so you don't need it anymore. If you need more details let me now.
