Limited Slip or Not?

Some of the time when I do burnouts I have a one wheel flamer (ussually when the tires are not warmed up) but I also have gotten both wheels to break loose and leave rubber on the ground (usually after the tires have been warmed up) I know I have 2.73 gears as I have rear drum brakes. I haven't been able to clean off my Rear Axle ID number enough yet. All I can see so far is 2H, which tells me nothing. I know that there was an option for 2.73 with limited slip,(says so in my GM Shop Manual for my 1986 Camaro). I am wondering if I have a limited slip that is not working right? Because I thought you couldn't brake both tires loose on an open differencial.

An open differential will sometimes spin both tires. The only way to know for sure what you have is to open the cover and look.

Re: Limited Slip or Not?

Only real way to tell is to open the rear up and look. My 91 RS had a 2.73 open/drum rear when I got it, and I could sometimes get both wheels going.

You can open the rear up or check for RPO code G80.
