Bad Driveline Shudder

Bad Driveline Shudder

Ever since I installed a new clutch for my T5, I've had this driveline shudder. It doesn't really happen when the car isn't warm, but when I've been driving for awhile, especially in hot weather, when I go to start from a stop, and I let off the clutch, everything just starts shaking and I have to rev up to about 3K to get going somewhat normally, which causes me to kinda peel out, when I don't really want to. I don't haven't been able to really pin it down, so I thought I'd ask ya'll about it. Any ideas???

Could be a pilot bearing or throwout bearing.

Just to let you know, I am having the same issue with mine ('87 IROC). Haven't had the time to dig into it to check it out yet, but if I get a chance soon, I'll let you know what was up with mine. This isn't too much help, I realize, but at least be assured you're not the only one with this problem

Yeah, I was kinda afraid that I might have gotten grease on the clutch, but seeing as I washed my hands before I handled the clutch every time, I don't see how I could have put the grease on there, but it's a possibility. Or maybe the valve cover gaskets leaking down onto the bellhousing has done their job quicker than I thought they would. The other thing I was thinking was the flywheel. My friend keeps on insisting that when you replace the clutch you have to go have your flywheel resurfaced, and I didn't do that just cause it looked fine to me. I just really don't want to have to climb back under there and take everything apart again to figure it out.

Sounds like the disk hub springs. I used the wrong disk for a project in years gone by and had that problem. With the proper disk, it went away. You may have a weak or broken spring, or you were given the wrong part.

For whatever reason, mine was bad warm, but okay cold, like you describe. Could be the strength of the spring, or the change in friction properties with temperature.

Well, unless Kragen pulled a Kragen and gave me the wrong clutch kit, I just got a standard replacement kit from them. I assumed they gave the correct part, but hey who knows. I guess it all just comes down to the fact that if I want to figure out what's up I'm going to have to tear out my tranny and stuff again. And if I do that, I'd love to do a Tremec 5 speed swap, but you know, money and everything, plus it probably wouldn't work with my current V6. Oh well. Thanks for the replies though everybody.
