Bent Shift Linkage holder. AND MISSING CLIP

HI...Ok on my tranny, where the shiftcable goes, not the linkage adjusting bolt, but the shifter plate that secures the cable with a clip is bent, and the clip is gone.. What are my options.?? Does anyone know where the clip be bought at. . and do i just bend the mounting plate back?

Re: Bent Shift Linkage holder. AND MISSING CLIP

Your description isn't crystal clear, but lemme first type what I think you have, then what you can do about it. The bracket towards the rear of the driver's side pan rail, that is held by 2 of the pan bolts, is bent. Further, the cable is now moving around relative to this bracket. Is that it? If so, the best solution is a trip to a salvage yard that has third gens. If you're desperate, cut several inches from a wire coat hangar, wrap it around the cable behind the bracket, then you can secure it to either the bent bracket or to the next forward pan bolt. I did this once, just to get home, but it worked well enough to last for 6 months. If this was not helpful, I apologize. Best I can think without a pic of the problem.

Try to catch the parts counter guy when he's not too busy, and maybe you can find the info for a '92. The older the car, the less likely there's anything in their computers. I'd suggest trying www.hawksthirdgenparts.com. Yes, used, but they'll know exactly the part, no need to hunt a probably-discontinued part number. My dealings with Bruce Hawkins have been good.

I don't know if you can use the B&M cable with your stock shifter, but I do know those brackets will NOT work with your stock cable.

Re: Bent Shift Linkage holder. AND MISSING CLIP

thats chill, ill just get a shifter then, and the bracket. My shifter is sooo not reliable. its junk. belongs at whatever junk yard there is around. i need a reliable shifter and b&m racing built one. Instead of a clip, its nuts. its an investment i was going to get anyways. for 4 years ive been stressing about my car rolling back down the driveway when in park. the crazy thing was, that it did roll back and there was a cop across the street investigating a non licensed tree trimming company.. the parking brake was on, but it slowly creep ed down the driveway, took 5 minutes total time. i had a heart attack. but other than that, i always slam it into park, and double guess the gears. now thats shes(car) dead, ill have time to fix the essentials.

Re: Bent Shift Linkage holder. AND MISSING CLIP

B&M makes a version of their Megashifter that fits your center console, but the newer Hammer is so much better to use. Of the 2, a parking valet would have less trouble with the Hammer.
