For the 9 years that I've had my 87 GTA 350, YES, AND I LOVE IT....... Remember the GTA's and IROC's got the 700r4 from the corvettes. Its not a "Corvette trany", for lack of better words, its GM's proformence trany that all 3 cars have. It's a 700r4 that been beefed up for our cars...awsome

If you ever has a problem or drop/brake your tranny, sooner or later it will, TRUST ME take it to a GM dealer for oem stock replacment... Or a well know/trusted tranny shop if you go aftermarket rebuild.... Last year the tranny blew and i took it to Mr. Transmission. I Told to just fix what broke, told them about the hard shifting all through out the gears and not to change that... My Car WAS all numbers matching until I found out that these types of shops usaully try to keep replacements in stock to guaranty fix time... Remember that our trans uniqe, the one that they put in was from some like Family car..... and shifted like one aswell. Since june of 08 its been back there 6 time to make it shift right. GM takes yours, fixes it and put YOURS back in using the right parts....(i don't work for Fu**** GM), just info you should know.
My 700r4 has the Transgo shift kit in it and yes it shfts hard from 1st to 2nd. Even under very light acceleration it will chirp the tires. the previous owner put the shift kit in and went a little too far with it.
i have the 700r4 and even with 170,000 miles on the stock engine, 305, it would spin the tires between 1st and 2nd even when I am not really getting on it.
I had to take special care to not chirp the wheels when I was driving in town. I thought it might have been the tires but after putting 4 new one on, still did it. Being inexperienced, I was kinda worried about it at first but after talking to a few guys in here, I realized that I am one lucky mo fo and thats the way it should be.

There are a few reasons that the 1-2 shift is hard. If the accumulator spring in the 2nd accumulator is broke. If there is a valve body kit, such as B&M which shifts hard all of the time. The TransGo Shift kit installed incorrectly or has the accumulator feed passage blocked or restricted. Second gear feed hole size in the separator plate, way to large. Mismatched accumulator spring and/or accumulator valve that controls the 2nd accumulator feed/bleed. To solve this, you have find out which 2nd apply servo you have, and you have to remove the valve body and separator plate and make the appropriate changes. I suggest the modified TransGo Shift kit, that comes with the Corvette servo, and larger boost valves. This will give you the best of both worlds. Smooth shifts at part throttle, firm shifts at WOT, better downshifts, etc.
