just got my car back from my relatives, it was sitting for awhile. So the T5 is shot, it was an 83 bolted to a 305 and since then I have swapped over to a 350 TPI. The T5 was bolted to the 350 and it's trashed now. Decided I want to just go to an auto, found a few 700r4's I might pick up for cheap. how much work is involved in this swap? I'm guessing I might have to cut the hole for the shifter bigger and get the auto shifter, what else might this entail?

pedals for an auto setup, throttle valve cable, throttle valve cable bracket, shifter and console top flywheel for an automatic should be 40 bux from the parts store and a torque converter.....its an easy swap ive done it both from auto to manual and manual to auto conversions
I am doing a auto to manual swap in my 89 Firebird, I still need a few parts like the bellhousing, clutch fork, and boot, and the clutch/brake pedal assembly with switches, mabye we could do some trading????
You don't cut the hole bigger. The automatic transmission is not shifted by a stick like a manual. It's controlled by a cable. You'll actually need to get rid of the hole! You'll need to weld a plate over the hole left by the manual shifter to mount the automatic shifter on. Otherwise there's no place to bolt the shifter to.

Exactly. Its cable driven. Small hole from the shifter to the transmission. I am soon doing a auto to manual on my 1986 camaro. I don't know if i will do it before winter hits or after. If you don't want to weld or don't have experience. One way to do it is get a plate and place over the hole and bolt it on. Make sure to use silicone sealant so you don't get are leak. My 700r4 transmission has new torque converter. but the flywheel cracked and i just put this rebuilt in and decided long ago if i had to go and take tranny out again it stays out and putting a manual in. have a donor car already.
this is rather interesting, the flywheel is too big? I took the transmission out, unbolted the bell housing, the torque arm is off and i need a different tail shaft from what I've read. The starter is in the way! did the store give me the wrong flywheel or what?
