Shift Kit trans??? Rear Axle?

Hey, I was told my 83 camaro has a shift kit, how can I tell. When i put it in drive or reverse from park it jumps a little and it shifts hard through the gears. also how can i tell what kind of rear i have and if its a posi? theres no tag on it. Thanks

First check what kind of trans you have just crawl under and look at the pan. As far as the rear goes rpo code will tell what is has from the factory the only was to be sure is to pull the diff cover.

Yes, but how do I Know if the trans has a shif kit. Im not talking from the factory, I do think its the stock trans but the previous owner said it was rebuitl with a shift kit put in. And i will pull the rear diff cover,

The only way to be sure is to drop the pan and look cause there are a number of things that can cause hard shifts.

Yes, I know but Its a nice hard shift tho, and when it does shift it chirps the tires, would looking at the pan tell me? I think the kit, (if it has the shift kit) was installed a few years ago

It probably does you would have to drop the pan and look inside look for an aftermarket seperator plate or even pull the valve body. If the trans is working good I wouldn't go through all that just to check for a shift kit. Wait until you have to change the filter or have a problem that you would need to drop the pan.
