Car: 86 Firebird LG4
Engine: 350
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 3.23 limited slip
700r4 has some milky stuff in it.
Just put new fluid in the 700r4 and noticed that it leaks (must be a bent pan). When I pulled the pan I saw a beautiful dark red but when I was pouring the fluid in the drain pan toward the end I saw just a little bit of a milky residue. Why is that there? I didn't even drive the thing and it already gets coolant. I don't deserve this one. Is it something with the cooler lines?

Was it a brown color? It should be fine, really. Just make sure you wipe the pan out really well before you reinstall it. I would use some brake clean, too.

how can water get in tranny fluid ? simple , you have fluid cooler lines that go to radiator . you need a new radiator . good luck .

GOD that thing is only like a year old. oh well. Can that be the only cause? I bet I bumped it too hard once..

You'll have to flush it.
Use air pressure to test the old radiator to make sure. Hope you have a warranty.
Get the new radiator in.
You can pump a lot of fluid out by overfilling the trans., disconnecting a line and running it to a bucket. Idle the engine until a safe amount comes out (4qts??) You won't hurt anything unless you run it dry and leave it running that way. Then repeat until the fluid is correct bright, clear red. A flush at a shoppe won't do anything better; just waste slightly less fluid and cost a bit more.
Not that your radiator rusted out internally in a year, but that does happen sometimes in cars that had cooling systems that were under-maintained or run w/ plain water.
Your trans. stands a chance to be okay, you just want to get the water out ASAP and good fluid in. good luck.

If it was just a little it could have been from condesation over time building up.
The dipstick tube may let some water in if you have sprayed the car too.
Theres a seal on the top where the tube goes in and aslo where the TV cable bolts down.
Something to check out.
