4L60E Trans.

I was wondering if a 4L60E trans out of a 1996 camaro work in a 1998? Will the pcm in the 98 work with the 96 trans?

Re: 4L60E Trans.

If they are both 4l60E's I see no reason it wouldn't, if its a different trans though, you most likely will need a different PCM. But if this is a 3.8 car I'm almost certain its the same trans through all the years it had the 3.8

Re: 4L60E Trans.

Hmm, my educated guess would be that the transmission is still the same between the years and the PCM can probably run either year trans, I doubt it could run both engines though. And I am pretty sure the PCM on the 4th gens controls the engine and the trans, with no real way to separate the ECU from the trans controller. Hopefully someone who knows the 4th gens better chimes in with some better info for you.

Re: 4L60E Trans.

The bellhousing on the ls1 4l60 e is different they sell a adapter kit for installing a newer tranny in a older motor, and the pcm for the lt1 is not the same as the ls1 pcm

Re: 4L60E Trans.

In obvious terms, No it wont work. By the time you adapt it to work (If you can that is) you could of sold the one you have now and just plain out buy the one you need.
