Car: 1988 Camaro sport coupe
Engine: 305 TBI
Transmission: T5 world class manual transmission
Axle/Gears: i think its 3.08 ration posi
Pedal Grinding
I havent posted for a while on here since my 400 swap log but now im having problems.
I had my 400sbc in and it spun a bunch of bearings so I had a brand new 383sbc put in my Camaro backed up by my T56, its a brand new T56 and wasnt giving me any problems before on my 400.
But now on my 383, when I push the clutch pedal in the pedal like vibrates like its grinding and making a high pitched screech noise that gets louder as RPM increases
I havent got to drive the car yet because of this and havent tried shifting in any gears. Only thing different from before is the flywheel and engine.
I took the trans out 2 times and found out I was putting the clutch in backwards. I changed the pilot bearing twice. and put everything back togehter and the screech is gone. but the pedal is still grinding. Maybe putting the clutch in backwards 2 times messed it up?
Help meh, tired of taking trans out and wasting money on fluid. Let me know if you need anymore info.
Ram aluminum LT1 flywheel for 1peice (my 383 is a 1 peice)
Stock clutch
Stock slave

Do I have to use a certain pilot bearing? I used the left one in my 400 and it was fine. and I put the left one in my 383. Do I need the one on the right?

Either pilot bearing will work fine... the one is a bushing, the other is a roller bearing, but they're prtty much functionally equivalent. Personally I prefer a bearing, but I've used plenty of both over the years.
Yes you could easily have messed up the clutch by incorrect assembly. The thing that could have happened is, the disc may no longer be flat; it might have got punched out into a "dome" sort of shape.

Well, i put a new clutch and pressure plate in and it fixed the problem. So idk what the actual problem was.

You may not know the actual problem but at least you know what needed replaced and a possiblilty that the clutch disc in backwards could have been caused warping. Personally that would be my guess. Main thing is it is fixed and a thanks for posting what you did to fix it.
