Need honest opinions on 90 irock
I have 90 irock that Im rebuilding again the car is in amazing condition with the exception of minor body and paint. The car is still mostly stock minus the for 9" rear end and the original motor was rebuilt again to a 383 stroker (no more casting number) the 700r4 i have is the original. I had aamco do a performance rebuild on it with a life time warranty (its junk never worked)
The issue I'm having! The car is a automatic and i always wanted a manual
I just picked up a wrecked 89 formula trans am with the manual, and the 305 tbi motor.
Would this trans have been the same one gm would have used in a 90 irock manual (part ##) if so would this be a bolt on swap kinda
Would this affect the value of the car (is it worth it)

Re: Need honest opinions on 90 irock
I wouldnt be concerned with the value of the car, seeing as a stock iroc will go for like 5k at the very very highest. And yours isnt even really original. Either modify it to your preferences, or make it all stock. And in any case, why mod a car that you plan to sell anyway?

IROC!!! GOT IT!!! Thanks for the welcome. Sorry for the slip, Ive had this car for 20 years. I was gonging to pass it on to my kid. I was just curios on the value.
I have a complete donor car for the swap to t5wc
OR
I could still put it back to stock with all the original parts. The rear end is a bolt in Currie unit. I still have the original heads and posi with the 3:42 gears.
The only problem is the block numbers got taken off at the machine shop and bored out so now I'm hosed.
Am i wasting my time or just go to the t56 rout or
just put it back together and drive it
It will just be a fun daily driver for an old fart
thanks thanks for your help ill do more research and decide.

Re: Need honest opinions on 90 irock
I really doubt you're sitting on some kind of goldmine for value down the road if only it were stock. If it has over 100k miles then it will NEVER be a super valuable original car. Our cars will be worth money one day, but only the low mileage never modified examples and they will always be worth less than the classic muscle cars that came before them. You'll be waiting a long time for your undriven garage ornament to accumulate value. You're better off investing money in the stock market than into a car that you can't drive for fear of putting miles on it.
It needs to be a very special combination of factory parts to be worth any real money.
Just do what makes you happy today.

Re: Need honest opinions on 90 irock
very true i was only wondering the car dose have 62K on it and a few other odd options i was only thinking it might be about 10-15k in like 20 years not that it matters I know they are only desirable to a few people as cheep fun
I am still interested in a manual swap on a budget
My apologies i do believe i posted this in the wrong location
Thanks you for your opinions

I'd recommend against a T5 if you've got a 383...there's a reason GM wouldn't let you get one with a factory 350.
T56s should be relatively cheap now, and will definitely handle the 383. Not to mention better gas mileage.

Re: Need honest opinions on 90 irock
I been doing a lot of reading and ya the t56 would be much better. I am looking in to what would be easier. Or rob some parts from the Pontiac and pick up the t56 and other stuff later. Or use the gen four parts.
Thanks again
Thanks again
