Whats involved in a gear swap

I have the 9 bolt borg warner with the 3.27 gears and wnt to move to a 3.73. do I just need the new ring and pinion set if the posi was still working ok or are there more components I should replace for good measure while I have it apart.

Also im looking for a little better off the bottom end but not a car I have to trailer everywhere, are the 3.73's mannered for street use?

It is...however the gear ratios are different, like there is no 3:73 for a BW 9-bolt.

Re: Whats involved in a gear swap

The 9 bolt doesn't have c clip axles and there are only 8 bolts in the ring gear. The bearing cap bolts are smaller so the torque will be less on the bolts. There are a few small differences, but it's mostly the same.

Re: Whats involved in a gear swap

ok. thank you guys for your time. Is there a huge difference between the 3:73 and the 3:7(I think is available for the BW)? would that be a little better for a cruise car since it wont take quite as much off the top end.

Almost no difference at all.
