T.V bracket and cable geometry

I took out my 305 tbi and installed a carbed 383. Problem is that the original mounting bracket for the throttle cable and t.v. cable wouldn't bolt to the new intake. I got an adjustable mounting bracket and everything seems to work correctly, but I want to know how I should measure the distance from bracket to carb to ensure I don't burn up my tranny from bad adjustment.

The real problem is at the carb itself. If the pull point isn't in the correct spot the TV will never work right. The various carb companies seem to be onto this and there are different brackets available.

Check out www.tvmadeez.com - very informative on TV brackets, alignment, etc. They sell the proper kit for $95 - good deal. They recommend a pressure guage on the tranny line to make sure you have the cable adjusted right.

Hope that helps,

Scott

I read the installation instructions and I am wondering why I would need their setup. Couldn't you just do the setup with the existing cable and bracket? I am 99% sure my setup is close because I measured the old t.b.i. linkage and movement and then welded my t.v. stud to my carb in the spot where it would mimic the t.b.i. It runs fine, just wondered if it was correct and how to check it. Thanks! for the input.

I've got it written down somewhre but not handy right now. As I recall the travel from closed to WOT on the cable should be 1.3" when the geometry is right.

O.K. my carb linkage moves one full inch farther than the t.b.i. so I set the t.v. cable at the same point as the t.b.i. would be at open throttle which is 3/4 throttle on the carb. It shifts just like the t.b.i. did, so until I fabricate a bracket will this work o.k.? I really appreciate the help guys. Thanks again!!

The distance from the centerline of the carb/injection throttle blade to the centerline of the TV cable hookup should be apx. 1.11". To do this look over the fender at the carb/injection, the throttle blade centerline is the middle of the clock. The TV cable should be (in the idle postion) at apx. 4:45 on the clock, and at WOT position apx. 7:15 on the clock. The cable travels apx. 78 degrees from idle to WOT. Do whatever it takes to do this if you want it right.
