Going to automatic
Am going automatic with a 700r4 in a 83 camaro. Is all I need is the transmission, torque converter and automatic shifter. What are the difference between these two shifters

Re: Going to automatic
Neither is what you want.
You need a 700 shifter from 83-92 Camaro. Along with the console top and shifter boot. And a WHOLE LONG LIST of other stuff. A flex plate for example; various wiring; a TV cable, and the brackets & linkage pieces to make it work; a different PROM, so the converter clutch will work; a torque arm bracket; maybe a few other items, depending on what you're taking out.

Re: Going to automatic
I have everything still except for wiring. I am still determining what wires are to stay w/ my car and converted for the manual vs which ones are now "extra" and need to come out.
The steering column has a lock mechanism w/ cable that goes to the shifter that locks the shifter in Park unless the key is inserted and unlocked. I am not sure if that feature exists on all steering colums (obviously doesn't lock the manual shifter). But, it involved a cable that ran from the base of the column to the shifter mechanism.
That feature is probably not required, but I guess an added safety feature for the Automatics.
Your transmission fluid is cooled by separate passages in the radiator. There is a pair small metal pipes that run under the passenger side of the engine to the radiator. Mine were rusted/siezed up, so I cut them when removing. I am not sure if GM installed a different radiator for the manual and automatic cars. The ports on mine are on the passenger side of the radiator. I think the radiators are generally transmission specific.
I'm in SE Virginia if you wanted to try a one stop pickup for all or most of the parts.

Re: Going to automatic
I have an 84 trans am that's an automatic and I need to replace the column because the guy who had it before me screwed up the guts of it and destroyed the collar. I have a steering column from another 84 but it is from a manual car. Can I swap that in as is or will I have to change parts out?
