Squeeling and clicking noise?!

Been chasing this noise which is driving me crazy when driving. I thought it was the rear diff. Even though the trans has recently been rebuilt and the noise started after that...

Spun the wheels in neutral and Its coming from the tailshaft. Disconnected the driveshaft from the axle to double check and it's all quiet when I spin the wheels freely.

So is this squeeling the bushing ive read about? Im not sure what the clicling is though. Hopefully the attached video works

Hi gta_knight,

I'm not sure if the noises you hear are from the U-joint or from within the tailshaft housing, but I can tell you with all certainty that your U-joint is absolutely bad. There is supposed to be zero play when you twist the driveshaft like your doing in the video, and I see plenty enough play there to proclaim the U-joint bad.

I can't see how a U-joint would both squeal and click like that, so it likely is something in the tailshaft housing, but since we now know the U-joint is bad, start by replacing that

Thanks man. Yeah it makes sense to have both UJ's replaced with the driveshaft coming off anyway.

im just going off what I've read up on here and a few YouTube videos saying the squeel noise is this metal bushing inside the tailshaft.

I can believe it's the bushing, because of all of the bad U-joints I've encountered, I've never heard a bad one squeal like that. Or, for that matter, to make such pronounced clicking sounds.
