I hope I didn't goof with the new rear (that drives fabulously). Did that sound gay?
Nevermind.

There is a speed where the driveshaft will start to make harmonic noises, but being 3" and aluminum, and with 3.27 gears, you won't have to worry about that.
The simplest way for you to eliminate the u-joints as the cause of the noise is to swap in your old, steel, known good driveshaft. Noise goes away, put in new u-joints. Noise still present... then it's something in the rear axle housing.

That was mentioned but I ditched the steel shaft years ago.
Worth a replacement to see if that is the problem? What do they go for these days? 100 bucks or so? Anybody got one on the peninsula I could borrow?

I thought it was your E-Brake cable rubbing on the drive shaft??

Fixed that. Now I am afraid this rear is a dud.
Vin... I'll drop you a PM about getting in touch on the phone. Thanks!

I would yank the driveshaft while its on the lift and first pull up and down on the pinion if it has any play your bearing is shot, if not press in some new u joints and try it, there pretty cheap. You can also take the shaft to a shop and have it balanced. While you have it off pull up and down on the transmision output shaft and see if thats your problem. Oh yea have a plastic baggie and a rubberband ready when you pull it from the tranny.

My blazer made a metal to metal sound before and the pinion bolt was loose, tightened it and it went away.

It sounds like two, circular metal rings sliding in opposite directions from each other, one inside the other. The sounds gets louder as the speed increases.
I'll check these two things: Pinion bolt, tranny output shaft.
Thanks guys!
