HELP ME, My car is throwing parts!!!

Ok first my radiator hoses split open. Then my battery left me in a parking lot. Fortunetly it was in the Wallmart parking lot and they sell batterys. Now my radiator is spliting.

I may have to yank one from the scrap yard and have it flushed due to money constraints. What I need to know is can I use both the radiator from a v8 and v6 as long as year and modle are the same or close? Also can the radiator from a firebird be used or is different becuase the hood has more of a slop to it?

You have the same luck I have. Bought my car in 2001 drove it for a month, then the radiator hose blows off from the fan not working, cracks and warps the heads, and broke my messed up my radiator. But if this had never happened I wouldnt have done all of the appearnce and minor performance"changed my body style from 85 SportCoupe to an 88 SportCoupe with gfx's and put in a better crand and cam, port and polish heads, intake, middle plenum and plenum and gasket matched everything.I think if the transmission line fittings are the same it shouldnt matter if its a v6 or v8 radiator, I know Ked85 or TomP would know for sure.

Yep; he's right, it'll fit the frame mounts, the V8 one is supposed to have a thicker core (bonus!!). Check the input/output of the radiator hoses to make sure they line up with your car's configuration. And if you have an automatic trans, make sure to get one from a v8 with an automatic (like 85SportCoupe said)!

Thanks for the help guys. Fortunetly I found a a radiator distrubution shop that has one for $97 / $104 with tax and they are going to deliver it to my house. The standard AC Delco replacment is $210. OOCCCHHH!!! So for now it will be getting a new one.

When I look at life it doesn't **** me off that much any more. The car has been doing a 170 mile round trip Monday through Friday for all most 2 years with verry little problems. On top of that it didn't leave me or my G/F stranded along the way. It got us home. All be it hissing like a mother, but it never over heated!!!!!

It's getting close to the time when I need to either rebuild the engine (187,000 miles) or replaced it with a 3.4L. That will have to wait for the money flow to level out again.

Hey at lest my fuel pump still works in tip top shape!!!

Well the job is done!!! I was the easiest r&r job I have ever done!!!!!

I have heard storys about pepole replacing thier radiators and all of the problems they had.

It took me 15 min to get the old one out and 20 min to ge tthe new one. It took and extra 5 min on the install becuase I got stupid and lost a screw and to look for it.

After having the radiator out I am suprised it lasted this long. My G/F's brother had the car before me and was in a front end accident. Well to make a long story short he rushed the repair guys and told them not to replace some things. One of them was the radiator. You can see the dents in the brass tanks from the accident. Plus the top row of fins were lose and broken free from the rest. not to mention all of the bent fins!!!

I'm happy again and the car runs cool now. In fact it does a little better job now.
