the day my heart broke....

i got into an accident the other day. here's irony, i was coming back from visiting Third Gen Resource. i was planning on purchasing some 4th gen seats that were coming in the next day. i even had a discussion with the owner about how much i loved third gens. despite any problems you've had with the company, the owner's a real nice guy who truly loves our cars. anyway, so i'm on 77 coming home, and some idiot stops for no apparent reason in the middle of the interstate. the LEXUS behind it had to slam on its brakes to avoid hitting this idiot, and apparently mine weren't as well suited for going from 65mph to 0mph as his, so after some skidding, i rearended him. the guy was cool about it, but unfortunately for me, it's technically my fault. the car still runs, but the frame is bent bad.... the beautiful paint on the bumper is torn to hell, and my fiberglass hood is ripped off the hindges on the driver side. two weeks later after lots of stalling, i took it to get an estimate on the price to fix......... grant it i'm going for a second opinion somewhere else, but technically...... my cars totalled. the worst part is, if you look at the car from the passenger side, it looks like there'sn nothing wrong with it...... perfect..... same from the back, but you get to the front and.... ugh.... sorry for venting, basically i just wanted to thank everyone here for all of the help i received from this great message board. i'm addicted, so i don't see anyway i can buy anything other than a thirdgen, but i can't promise it'll be a 6'er. you guys are great, and hopefully i can help someone else like you've helped me down the line......
i'll be back... but for now, take care all

ONLY person to be angry at is yourself for not paying attention.
FROM ONE that has caused rear end accidents and they were MY FAULT, too.

Sorry to hear. i did the exact same thing a couple weeks ago. Lady stopped right in the middle of a tunnel for no reason. My frame is bent a little too. Im having that straightened and then fixing the rest myself. i thought my car was going to get totaled too, but i told the insurance guy all the work i put into my car, so he decided not to. I hope everything works out.

RealDeal, sorry to hear about the accident; glad everyone's okay.

Man, I really have to get my accident pics up. When you see 'em, you'll re-think the idea that your car is totalled. Find a parts car, and use that for it's frame & body parts.

i appreciate the support.... still need to get the second opinion and have someone drive me out to any junkyards i can find, to look for some used parts. worst part about my accident is that it doesn't look so bad.... it's all internal, so to speak. it's funny how so many people have been telling me that i've been acting different ever since the accident. i guess i'll always and forever be a third gen driver.

My parts car was an '84 Firebird, 2.8, for $250. I had to floor it to get it up the small ramp that goes into my garage. (We had it towed to my house.) I used the whole front clip, the front subframe, the windshield, right strut mount, a TON of screws & bolts, and the left spindle (damaged in previous accident) from that car. Before my dad found it, a junkyard quoted me $100 for a windshield, and $150 for the front subframe. Ask around at local garages; they usually know where to find a parts f-body.

Hey; worse comes to worse, you could always swap your entire car into the parts car!
