strange vibration coming from tranny above 2800 rpm ???
When I am cruisin on the beltway (oxymoron?) once I hit above 2800 I get a srange vibration coming from the tranny. Its enought to feel it on my heels through tennis shoes! I was thinking maybe tranny mount? could this do that? Any help would be appreciated!
Also, I will through it into overdrive and it will stop, any ideas?
THere not really a noise, just vibration. My friend was in the passenger seat the other day, and he said he really couldn't feel it, but it was pretty hard on my side.
thats about all the details I can think of. Can you think of what could be cuasing this?

well for starters go jack it up and take a look around and see, might be worn univerisal jounts, pull on stuff, look at the mounts and bolts.

maybe a loose mounting bolt too. friction will hold the converter to a certain speed, then it begins to shake. otherwise a loose/failing trans mount you would feel the trans moving all the time.

yep I'll bet thats it, you have a lose flywheel to torque converter bolt, there are only 3 of them so if EVEN one is loose you would get a vibration.

How hard are these bolts to get to? I have access to the hobby shop where is only $4 an hour to use the scissor lifts, am I best going there to get to the bolts?
Where exactly is the tranny mount? Can I see it when my car is on jackstands?

THE BOLTS are easy to get too, just take off your inspection pan the one that covers the fly wheel and starter gear. And they are right there on the fly wheel facing forward, there are three, just bar the engine over to get to them. I would get 3 new ones from GM and put them in to the proper torque and then you don't have to worry.

Tranny mount is located between the front wheels.
"O" is the wheels
"-" is arms and bars
"=" is the tranny mount
your car prob. look like this...
O---==---O
you will be able to see if it's broken or not. look for a rubber mount with cracks. it's right on the bottom of the car, so if you start digging you're looking in the wrong place.

I was looking at this today when i had the car on the scissor lift changing the trans fluid and checking out why my drum shoes are "gouging" out my drums.
I had to take the cross member off to do this. there is another plate that is atttached to the crossmember that appears that there should be a set of rubber rings on both sides, but one side was missing.
I will be getting new ones tommorow at the GM Dealer when I pick up the retaining springs, if they have them in stock.
