Anyone know the HP/Tourque ratings on a WC T-5 for a v6?

I got a call from someone who wants to buy it but he wants to put it behind a 350 tpi (said its the stock 245 hp). I told him maybe if it was a 305 it would be alright using the v6 clutch setup, but I asked him to talk to his mechanic to make sure it wont break.

I really don't want to sell the guy something thats gonna break, he seems like a nice guy and I would hate to have him spend money on something about to be torn apart.

Its out of a 91 V6 and has 89k miles on it, shifts great and its in excellent condition. Thanks.

ever notice the 350 thirdgens weren't available with the T5? That's because they broke the V8 T5s.. I'd give the V6 T5 *one* good launch behind an L98.. and it would grenade.

splines are different, and he will/would have to find a very specail clutch to bolt up to the v8 flywheel, but take the v6 splines.

actually, I think if you do a search on the tranny board you will find that you can use a mid 80's astro clutch disk with a v8 pressure plate. It is the right diameter, with the right splines, if I remember correctly. Do a search on the tranny board for more info on using the v6 t-5 behind a v8.

Yes, I do know this, but reallize many people have put a T-5 behind a 350, take TexasLT1 for instance, he is running about 350 rwhp on his vehicle in front of a stock V8 T-5 and says its holding up pretty good.

I know you can use a v6 t-5 with a v8, plenty of people have done it, like I said, I don't want this guy to throw his many away because he was insisting he wants it, im just trying to do him a favor by finding out the specs, if he still wants it fine, if not im sure someone else will come along.

There was a monster thread all about this and if the V8 is to strong or a myth. The thread had 7-10 people all with healthy motors with a reg T5 behind it with no problems. Its when you run slicks you have problems. Or drive it wrong. 45k drops

They also kinda proved in the thread that the only reason GM did not use a T5 in a 350... It would not pass the EPA down shift standards for CA. When you down shifted a 350 spit and poped to much crap. Cause they make all cars 50 state legal.

Ill look for it.

The guys with a motor and a T5 did changed the fluid often. every oil change. From regular aft, gear lube and some ran a mix of both.

I run straight 30w oil as directed by the JY that sold me the tranny.

So are the V6 internals the same as the V8's? I know the input shaft is different, but is that it?

Now that could be the tricky spot of the puzzle.

Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
The countergear shaft is different also, to match the different # of teeth on the input shaft's transfer gear.

So is it the same HP/tourque rating? I couldn't find any data on this site for the v6 model.

Hey pasky,

Did you ever sell that WC V6 T5 transmission? I could really use it, especially since it only has 89,000 miles. I saw your classifieds ad, and sent you an e-mail, then I ran into this thread and thought "Oh no! I hope he hasn't sold it!"
I've got an 89 Camaro RS and the previous owner beat the tranny to death, only had 87,000 miles when I bought it and it is in bad shape. Rest of the car is fine and the engine is great. Anyhow, an 89,000 mile tranny would be wonderful. Please let me know - PM me.

Thanks.

according to GM, torque capacity on all the T5's used in GM vehicles range from 210 to 310 lb ft.

I sent you an e-mail, I may sell it with the engine, may not, problem is I have not gotten my cherry picker fixed yet so can't get the engine to my mother in laws to weigh it and get a quote.
