hey guys i recently gave my car an oil change and checked 2 of the plugs, seemed fine started it up took a few cranks, the problem is before i pulled the plug wires off the car started everytime first try, now i have to pump the gas a bit and it smells really rich.

i'm thinking either a plugs loose or not firing or my plug wires need to be replaced.

anyone have any ideas?

did you get the plug wires crossed? how does it run once it starts? does it run rough or stumble?

 

well when it first fires up it runs rough till i get the rpm up higher then it runs fine

i already checked that the number and 3 and number 5 are now back on there respective plugs i'm wondering if a plug got fried?

 

people generally get 1/2 mixed. and forget that the band numbers are reversed from a SBC.
#1 on passanger front.

though mine for some reason is hard to start with low fuel, when it's cold.
did you check your timing? often when you change plugs, wires, you need to reset the timing.

I have a strong feeling you have damaged your plug wires & your spark for igniting is not sufficent anymore.
Try this.
Open hood Be in DARK
have someone crank over engine
Look for sparks.
Could be the problem.

 

yeah my gut tells me i damaged a plug wire.

i bought new ac delcos to put in before i removed the wires, the plugs in there looked fine so i left them, i think this weekend i'm gonna replace the distributor, wires, and plugs

 

Give the try for plug wires FIRST then hit key.
Ya may score. The voltage output of the coil is quite high & can spark thru alot of plug crud, to get running.
Make sure you buy extra plug wire separators & use them.

hey kretos, where in surrey do you live? Maybe we can get together and figure out both our problems because my v6 has exact same problem as yours! I also changed my plugs and now car takes forever to start. I wonder if it has something to do with the cold weather?

 

i actually fixed my problem quite easily it was just a cracked plug, my bet would be to try your plug wires. my car runs extremly well now.

as far as getting together i'd love to help a fellow thirdgenner why not come to the meet at spanish banks on the 22nd? there will be tons of guys who know a hell of alot more then i do there and we can all give it a shot
