Re: got the 2.8 nitrous fed drag car running!!!!
haha to big, just kiddin you can never go to big. but its the same thing as a comp cams 260, with 1.6 ration rockers and new push rods and fully ported heads, so its taking in a lot more air than before. also its got new 19lbs fuel injectors. but it idles i just got to keep givving it gas or it will stall out. and also i can hold the gas steady adn it will still sometimes rev up oon its own, i think there is a vaccum leak but i dunno yet.

Re: got the 2.8 nitrous fed drag car running!!!!
yeah pretty much, ive got a walbro 255l fuel pump(not in yet) and the bigger injectors will help feed the beast. also so i dont run to lean with the nitrous.

You might have too much fuel going in at idle, do you have an AFPR? With 24# injectors (and reading the crappy 1.5" guage I got) I'm running at a measly 24-28psi of fuel at idle.
And yes with that cam you will need to "warm it up" a little .

Re: got the 2.8 nitrous fed drag car running!!!!
yeah, i didn't even think about that. those injectors are probably hurting you idle unless the computer is tuned for them. reason i asked about why you switched to them is because I'm running a much bigger cam and still runing stock injectors and still run rich, even at 6k rpms. But, I'm not spraying...

19's should be fine its only 2#'s more then stock i posted up some wideband logs a while back of a 3.1 idling and running with 19 and 24# injectors a while back the 19's were only slightly rich

about 4 hours, but if you want to race me i'll be there. let me know when and i'll get it off work i love a little road trip.
as for the injectors its 15lbs stock. and im getting abou 43.5 fuel psi with my guage on the fuel rail.
i got a new digital timming light and im gonna get thatt set tommorw and put on the y pipe and plug in the 02 sensor and see if that helps.

what is causing me two go through two head gaskets so fast??? i know how to put them on and im putting them on the right way. but i have a feeling it might just be the intake gasket got messed up again. but im just gonna change them all.

Re: got the 2.8 nitrous fed drag car running!!!!
Hope you don't have a crack somewhere internally that you can't see. If you have a radiator pressure checker I would pump it up and really scan through the engine. No use working on a bad block. Also check the timing chain cover. If there is a crack there or if the bolts aren't tight t would leak straight down into the oil pan.
my understanding of injectors were:
2.8's and 3.1's came with 15lb/hr pintle injectors
3.4's and 3100's+ came with 17lb/hr disk
easy way to tell them apart is that the 15's have a small little point on the tip while the 17's have 6 small holes.

Re: got the 2.8 nitrous fed drag car running!!!!
well i stripped it down to the block. so its to late for any pressure testing. i think i found the problem any ways the intake gasket i dont think was sealled good one the number 1 piston, and the head gasket had a hole in the number 6 cylinder and went from the ring all the way to the water holes. hopefully that was my problems.

are you torquing this down in the right order and to the right tightness?
You may want to spray glue the intake manifold to the heads too.

You have the heads off (upper end). I have had the upper off, new rockers spec'd back out and back together in an afternoon.

Re: got the 2.8 nitrous fed drag car running!!!!
Alright well its back together. so far no oil and water mixxing, no oil leaks and one tiny water leak where its going into the intake, but im on that with my bars. its got the y pip and one dyno max bullet on it, but ive got a pretty nast exhaust leak. i just need to dirve it down to the shop and put it on the lift. and timming is a little off so i will take care of that tomorow. but it wont idle for some reason. if i keep it at 2,500 rpm it just goes up and down on its own. i was trying to break in the cam had it running fro a minutie or so above 2,500 rpm but it wont idle. anyways its raining here and ive got to get up at 2a.m so ill finish her tomorow.

Re: got the 2.8 nitrous fed drag car running!!!!
UPDATE:
ok its been a while since ive been on here. well it was up and running for a day. still no test runs but it was running on its own and still is leaking or mixing anything. i set the idle pretty high it idles around 2,200 if im not mistaking. but its real smooth. but what happend this time is from all the cranking trying to get it started over the past month the starter wiggled its self loose and every time i went to start it, it was making a terrible metal scraping noise, so i got under it bolted it up nice and tight. and then put the battery on the charger over night. and went out the next day adn nothing, i think i might have fried the starter from the contious cranks latley. it like it has no ***** at all. so im gonna get a new starter tomorow and put it in. hopfully all is well and im running tomorow.
DAVE: if your reading this, them heads flow awesome man . the car sounds so smooth. all it has for exhaust is the headers and ypipe with a bullet on the end. and the valves are set perfect, timming is awesome. thanks again for your help on those. now i cant wait to hook up the N20 and put down some time slips.

Re: got the 2.8 nitrous fed drag car running!!!!
update:
hmm well i am now at a fork in the road here. i think i might have spun a bearing. and when i tear into the bottom end this weekend and find that i did i need to make a decicion on what to do next.
i can #1 take the 2.8 out of the car tear out the internals and get a new rotating assembly and rebuild it right with forged parts for the nitrous.
or #2 keep it simple and just throw a carbed 350 in it, nothing to wild but it would probally get the nitrous kit.
i just dont want to go down the 3.4 road. so if i keep the 6 its gonna be the 2.8. any opinions? i like being diffrent and i already have a 82 Z28 with a carbed 350, but i also like power and im not sure if its gonna be what i want it to be with the 2.8 and nitrous. just looking for some of you guys ideas on what to do.

yeah LT1 was def a possibility, dream motor is an LS1, but i think im just gonna keep it simple and go carbed. a good friend of mine is a retailer for jasper motors so that will prob be my best route.
