performance upgrades for 3.1L?
I have a 91 camaro RS with a 3.1L that was rebuilt and has 35,000 miles on it. I'm 18 and on a limited budget but i was wondering what you would recommend to start increasing performance and horsepower.

I would start there. I think most people will say to start with the exhaust. Get a high flow cat and a cat back, and if you still have some money get a set of headers(if you dont have emissions in your area).

I have a fully stock 3.1L MPI Camaro RS. What do you guys think would be the most cost-effective way to increase horsepower? I was considering Headers as my first upgrade. I have also read a bit about taking the plenom from a FWD pontiac V6. Does anybody know anything about that?

Now to get to your question. There are alot of things you can do to a 3.1l to get better performance. It all depends on your budget and mechanical/fab skills. The FWD top end swap is considered a big swap. I would start with the basics. Here is a good link for the basics. http://thirdgenmods.firebirdv6.com/
BEFORE you start modding your car you need to make sure everything is back to stock running order or better. I would start with a full tune up and make sure everything runs the way it is supposed to. You will notice the best gains if you start off with a solid baseline. Maybe someone can get you the link for the tune-up guidelines. I think Tom-P did a nice article on this...it might have been some else tho. I seem to have misplaced the link somewhere in my bookmarks to tell for sure.
Good luck and welcome to TGO

Gears. Won't give you any more power but it's the most economical way to get more fun out of it.
