Does the cam make a sound?
I was checking my pulleys today by removing the serpentine belt and spinning them by hand. While they all seemed ok, I started my engine up. I noticed the pulley for the cam was making a kind of medium "chugging" sound. Is this normal or is something amiss? Timing chain perhaps?

Pardon my dumb question, but...
Which pulley are you referring to as the "cam" pulley? You might also want to elaborate on this "chugging" sound. Like, compare it to something that we've all heard.

Well the pulley I'm talking about is the one right there at timing marks. The one on the very bottom of the engine. The sound is more like an small exhaust leak. Kinda a hollow sound.

Depending on the noise which will be hard for any of us to really fully know it could be the plastic timing chain guide.
On my 3.1 I had that guide break which is right behind the timing chain cover around the area your talking about. It sounded bad and might go with the sound your refering to.

^if thats the case get a new timing chain while your at it. thats what happened to my cars original engine. it wore off the damper at first then skipped timing.
