Looking at a V6 that needs some work

I'm 16 years old and for my first car I'm looking at an 87' camaro with a V6. It's 650$ and it needs a fuel pump. Are the fuel pumps internal or external? I'm very mechanically inclined. How much would this cost or should I send it to the shop? I don't want to jump into this.

Re: Looking at a V6 that needs some work

fuel pumps are in the fuel tank. have to drop the tank to access the pump or cut a hole with an access pannel to work.

Just buy the pump and plan for a saturday. Just drop the tank and replace old with new.
