HELP!! I know zip about distributors. I am confused regarding the Mallory #4569201 dizzy I purchased months ago. Summit Racing and Mallory both agree the dizzy is a compatible replacement for the Chevy 2.8L Fuel Injected motor. Am I missing something here? I see how the connector on the Mallory unit is usable, with the addition of the Ignition Controller it's feasible. But, nothing else is in anyway shape or form compatible. If anybody has thoughts I am all ears...other than I should have gone with MSD!

According to information found via a google search that distributor will not work with an EFI engine. It has a mechanical advance system (vacuum optional). It directly fires a coil or an ignition amplifier.

There is no interface for the GM type EST system required for an ECM.

The amazing thing is that in that same link it lists the vehicles that it will work on. Which includes our EFI'd 2.8l AND 3.1l 3rd gens. I guess if you convert to a carb it'll work.

Ill say it again, if you need to save money buy Summit brand stuff, still gonna be crappy Mallory junk but gonna cost less in the end with better support. Summit cares more about their name.

Also there is no big advantage to using anyones name brand dizzy, is all hype, you can rebuild yours with the same parts for allot less. THey are not rocket science. That is unless your shaft bushing are severaly out of round, still then ya just find a good used base to rebuild.

Oh and if your gonna be using a IGN box like the MSD box or what ever, you don't even need half the junk inside, just install a good MSD/other magnetic trigger system, as the box does all the work of the ign modual anyways, don't even need it anymore. Though you can get an adapter to use a dizzy with one. But all that does is let the box read the pick up coil information.

If you got time, I know someone who can rebuild and install your trigger as needed to use a box.
