problems with my v6 2.8L fi please help.

I have an 88 camaro v6 2.8L FI and I have a couple problems. It basically takes forever to get up to speed but once you get up to speed it goes, also stalls sometimes at idle when in gear. You can give it all the gas you want it still takes the same amount of time to speed up.

I replaced the fuel filter/air filter/the cat isnt clogged/spark plugs/wires/distributor cap/rotor/new water pump. I have no idea why it does this but do you think if could be clogged fuel injectors? Also apparently it has low compression like 85lbs or something like that.

Re: problems with my v6 2.8L fi please help.

Well if the compression really is low than that's most likely your problem. Low compression can be cause by bad headgaskets and bad cylinder rings, worn cylinder walls too.

If the compression isn't low than it could be that the timing is off. It could also be a worn out fuel pump or clogged injectors. Check your fuel pressure, you should have about 42psi. The first thing I would do is be sure of the compression test, if thats ok the replace the timing chain (supposed to be replaced every 25k miles) and set the timing; then test the fuel pressure, if it's low you probably need a fuel pump, if it's normal put some fuel injector cleaner in the tank; if you notice a slight improvement then you most likely need injectors.

that compression is VERY low, if I recall it should be something like either 135 or 160, can't remember which #, but it should deff be over 100. Is it that low on all cylinders??

Re: problems with my v6 2.8L fi please help.

IIRC, compression on the 2.8 should be over 160 PSI, having a higher CR than the 3.1, and my 3.1 had higher than 160, so... If the compression is low on one cylinder, a number of things could be wrong. Low in 2 adjacent cylinders can be a cracked head gasket/fire ring. Low in all 6 probably means the valves are loose.
