Re: Are these valve covers ok????

Id say they look right... what are they off of? I know mine have another hole in the covers for the PCV valve on the drivers side but mines a 1991 so it might be different. Im sure someone on here will chime in with a more definite answer.

Re: Are these valve covers ok????

3.1L and 2.8L covers are the same dimentions on camaros from what i remember. Do some searching. type anything you wana search on google search site and add thirdgen after the key words becasue I've had better luck with google then this sites search engine.

Cant you go see if your original ones on the motor have the extra hole?? Im not sure if your pre 1985 2.8L had one. The third hole is for the PCV(positive crankcase ventalation) valve

they apear to be the correct valve covers for a 2.8/3.1/3.4, if it was for a 3.8 or a 4.3 they wouldnt have the holes on the ends

Re: Are these valve covers ok????

valve covers wont make ur car not run right as long as there is a place for the pcv valve.
its hard to tell from the pics if they are correct for the motor so u will just have to pull one of ur stockers off and match them up

Re: Are these valve covers ok????

ok the size of the hole that the PCV goes into is 3/4 inch and my hole in the valve cover is 7/8 of and inch. Really you just need to find a groment that fits your PCV valve 3/4 inch and then make a hole in the valve cover so it fits in nice and tight.

its the same on both motors ... the size of the PCV

Re: Are these valve covers ok????

well heres what i would do. Go to a auto store and take your PCV valve with you, ask them for a groment that will fit that PCV, it fits in there sorta tight but not like ya gotta jam it in there. Then measure the width of the outside of the groment you just bought. Dont add in the umbrellas on the groment into the diameter. You know what i mean?? Then find a drill bit close to that size.

Im thinking your gonna need a big bit though mabey one of those that have the circle on the out side and the bit in the middle?? You know the kind im talking about? I completly forgot what there called.

But your best just to drill the size of hole YOU need not what we have since youll be buying a different groomet then we have.

Re: Are these valve covers ok????

oooooooh ok i see what your saying. My brother said that the chrome will flake off even if i drill a hole for the PCV. Im pretty sure it wont though if u cover the edges with a grommet, no? so I need a 1" ID x 1/4" OD oil filler grommet. and then I should tell the people at the parts store that I need to match the PCV valve with a grommet and find a drill bit that fits tight...correct?

Re: Are these valve covers ok????

Well just try you hardest not to flake off the chrome when you drill it, use oil when drilling. Yes the grooment will help the chrome from flaking.

Mine dont have a grooment for the oil fill cap. My cap is just rubber and just fits in there.

But ya just find a grooment that fits your PCV and then find a drill bit of some sort that will drill the hole you grooment needs.

Re: Are these valve covers ok????

haha sorry im being so complicated. We can eliminate the PCV valve because I have my old one and its perfect so I can do all the measuring and bullshiat from there. Now I need an oil filler cap for said valve covers my brother said I need a 1" ID x 1/4" OD grommet for that and then find an oil filler cap to fit that. is that ok? or can i get like one that is stationary without the grommet?

S/E84, are you putting those on a carbed 2.8L? If you are, from what I remember is that the driverside v. cover has the throttle brackets welded to it.

I recommend a stepped bit and tape to keep from flaking.

I usually use these after I make a starter hole

and yes I know harbor freight sucks but believe it or not these are awesome.

It would make life alot easier to just take the PCV valve with you to autozone or whatever and tell them you need a grommet to fit that PCV.....

If all else fails just buy a new PCV valve(there like 3 bucks) and then buy the grommet at the same place. Then youll know they both fit.
