245/50/R16s were standard on most applications.

+1 for 245/50R16.... you could probably stretch it and go up to 255 or 265 even

Anything smaller and you are increasing your chances of scuffing up the lips of your rims.

235/55-16 semi easy to find
245/50-16 easy to find
255/50-16 hard to find
my tires were wearing down and i did research.. they are all factory sizes except for the 255..

Re: what size tires for 16x8 rims??
when i picked up a set of 16 X 8 formula wheels, fronts had 245/50-R16s and the rear rims were carrying 255/50-R16s. As far as sticking 255's on the front...haven't a clue. This was a basic bird so it didn't have the right steering box and it was rubbing the frame already but if your car wasn't original to 16" wheels or you haven't changed the steering box then i wouldn't go much higher than 245s as those will still probably rub (unless you changed the offset of the wheels compared to originals)

Re: what size tires for 16x8 rims??
I had 275 BFGs on my 92 RS (BFG no longer makes those) and am putting the BFG 295/50s on my crosslace wheels come new tire time.
Yes, they'll fit. No bad tread footprint. With the taller sidewalls (50% of the 295) they'll plant just fine. Already know a guy running them right now, with no issues.

Looked around on the club website, but couldn't find any. Sorry.
But the 295s are H rated, not Z. For a driver, that's really not a big deal other than for looks.

Re: what size tires for 16x8 rims??
I'm running 255/50/16 kdws on all four corners of my 87 Iroc with no problems. Ould be interested in going larger on the rear if something fits without fitment issues.

Re: what size tires for 16x8 rims??
On stock rims, 255s up front are the widest you can do.
In fact, for a street legal tire, there is nothing between a 255 & 295 anymore.
Not sure if I'm gonna mount my spare 255s, or just buy new 295s, for the rear. We'll see what my wallet looks like then.

Re: what size tires for 16x8 rims??
I run 255/50/16 as well, with only slight rub on full lock; however, the car is lowered. This size is stock for early c4 corvettes.
