Tire size to lower car

My 92 camaro rs has 235/60R16's on it now and was wondering if I switched to 245/50R16 tires, would it really be an inch lower? The difference in in overall height is 1 inch in the tire calculators. I was just curious if I would notice it. Thanks.

Re: Tire size to lower car

If the tire is an inch shorter, it's only going to lower the car 1/2"

That will lower the car ¾” to be exact.

Your speedometer will read higher than reality when you’re doing an indicated 80MPH you’ll only be going 76MPH.

You should visually notice it because Camaros are not that high to begin with.

RE: Handling;

The shorter sidewall is be good for steering response when zipping over those twisty country roads, and the lower center of gravity can be the fast way around entrance and exit ramps.

However smaller diameter tires have a shorter contact area with the road which might render less grip.

Also, lowering the center of gravity improves handling as long as geometry is not adversely changed.

It’s all about testing.

Happy Racing!

Re: Tire size to lower car

Yeah, the guy that I bought the car from put these tires on even though they aren't the factory size. They kinda look like truck tires. Too tall of a sidewall. Any more responses are appreciated! Thanks.

The other thing to note, and perhaps more importantly than the speedometer, is that the odomoter will also read falsely.

Re: Tire size to lower car

It's already reading falsely since the tires that are on there now are to big.
