People with 20s please come in.
I know 20s are generally frowned upon here but if not gaudy tin foil plate looking things it can look great if done right and i know there are a few of you who are running them. I'm concidering a staggered 18 x 8.5 fronts/20 x9.5 rears setup on my 92 camaro but am unsure of what tire size i can fit on the rear. Any help would be appreciated.

I am running 20" wheels, and my current wheel/tire combo has plenty of clearance in the fender wells.
I am running a 20x9 wheel in the front. 245/35/20
A 20x10.5 in the rear with 255/35/20. I ran a 275 in the rear, but it rubbed some. The fender needed to be rolled to fit that size tire.
Be sure to post pictures if you go with a 18/20 setup. I am thinking about going that size.

Fenders will be rolled, no worries. I figured I'd have to do that anyway with the car being dropped too. But that helps tremendously. I think the 255 series tire would work better with a 9.5" wheel anyway. Thank you

I'm running a 20x9.5 in the rear and a 275 30 20, stock height and the fenders are not rolled. It has only rubbed one time, I was doing about 75 on the highway and hit a pretty big dip in the road while going to an out of town car show. I had a passenger, 2 tents, an ez up canopy, a small charcoal grill and a full cooler in it.

Yes but im going to be dropped at least 1.5" so if nothing more than piece of mind ill roll the fenders. Any side shots of your cars guys?

Nice stance! Which spacer are you using on front and rears? Is your car lowered? I know I am crazy, I am looking foward to swap my Ronal's for a set offre 20X8 fronts and 20X10 rears. As for the rear tirés, I would like to go with 295/25/20. Would it be fine with à 1'' lowered on Eibach prochaine kit?

Ok, so I decided on and bought the wheels. I went with Boss Motorsports 338s with the black center and polished lip. 18" x 8.5" fronts and 20" x 10" in the rear. They look awesome. Now I'm working on getting tires.
Question, for the rears is a 255/35/20 or a 245/35/20 on a 10" wide wheel safe? I know you BuggyDisaster said you're running 255s but I don't know if the car is your daily driver. This is my daily. I understand the sidewalls will be stretched but will they be safe? Import guys do this kinda set up all the time. I'm just worried about rubbing.... any input?

Re: People with 20s please come in.
Every manufacturer has a recommended wheel width range they recommend for a certain size tire.
A 275/40R17 is commonly recommended to be mounted to a 17x9" up to 17x11" for example.
Any change in profile (40,) and section width (275,) can change recommended wheel mounting width. Wheel height usually doesn't change the range recommended.
Start with that recommended range. If it's within the recommended wheel widths to put it on a 10" wide wheel, you're good. If it's only recommened up to 9.5" but that's the look you're dead set on, it might be okay.

What if you can't find the wheel width range for a particular tire?

NVM, I'm just going to go with the 275 tire and not worry about it. The more and more I look at the stretched tire look the more it bugs me. I'll post pics once everything is together.

I know this is an old thread but are you still running with this setup? If so how are you liking it?

Re: People with 20s please come in.
I'm not against 20" wheels by any means, but on a 3rd gen - which needs a 26" tire, the visual and performance virtues are compromised compared to say a 5th gen Camaro or SRT Mopar.
Many people don't understand this, but the smaller the tire sidewall, the higher the effective spring rate of your car (and therefore, lower ride quality). If you live in areas where roads are smooth and not cratered, 20" may be a perfect choice, otherwise a 18" (or even 17") is a much better choice for most. The inflection point (point of diminishing returns) for a 26" tire on a 3rd gen comes out to be 18" wheels in real world driving and performance (street and track).
Even the track hero 5th gen Z28 uses 19" wheels and tires due to both weight concerns and also having the optimal tire sidewall:wheel ratio for the best handling and control.
