torque arm selection
hey guys,
i am about to purchase a torque arm for my 89 IROC and was wondering which one would be best for my setup. its a daily driver and i heard that spohn torque arms are very noisy (i also run 11's so i need a driveshaft loop). i heard random arms were alot more quiet, but i dont want to sacrifice a great deal of performance for a quiet ride. is there a solid performing torque arm (w/ driveshaft loop) out there that wouldnt be really noisy for a daily driver??? if so, which one? opinions? thanks

Did you look into BMR fabrication, they make a real nice kit..subframes and all.I installed one of their track pack kits on a friends '93 Z28,very nice.I myself run a Random technology arm with a Jegster driveshaft loop and have zero complaints on daily ride or track usage, though i only run in the twelves.

I have the poly bushed Spohn arm and it isn't noisy at all and I got the integreated safety loop. I'm very happy with mine.

hey Jerrywho,
that intake manifold in the backround, was it hard plumb the nitrous kit under the manifold? did you have any clearance problems? how much was the cost of the kit? thanks a lot!

I paid $375 for the TA from Random Technology back when it first came out..1996 I beleive. The driveshaft loop was $35 from Jegs.I also forgot to mention to look into the S&W race cars suspension package for our third gens, very nice package.I have a friend down in GA that runs that package on his car with great results. It comes with subframes,DS loop, torque arm,and lower control arms if you dont already have some of thes pieces.

Spohn Poly Torque Arm $395 with the integrated safety loop. A very impressive piece, very fine construction.

The intake still needs a long weekend to get it finished. I think it will work on a roller block. The block i have has ribs in the lifter valley area and it still works. The kit was for a over intake style and i made the center block and bent the tubing for it. I don't remember the cost you can find the kits at just about any speed shops.

Jegster torque arm is like 250.00. It works pretty good for me.
Spohns stuff is ok I guess, a lot of people on here seem to like his work. I thought the Jegster was best of both worlds as far as street/strip.

You might consider an Edelbrock, though it is non-adjustable. It comes with a poly tranny mount.

Spohns is nice, but on dual cat setups, the left cat & the pipe behind it will hit the DS safety loop in some cases.

See the problem with the Edelbrock and similar ripoffs is they still mount to the tranny. Why replace it at that point?
The Jegster, and SSM torque arms mount to the CAR, not the transmission, and they're 2/3 the factory length. They increase traction greatly, and don't waste HP by pusing up on the tranny.
The Jegster one has the added benefit of rotating as well as sliding in and out so around cornors, and bumps its as good as stock. And at the track, it comes to life..
The SSM one is a little stiffer around cornors..
