I need advice on a plenum set up
Hey my names chris and i own an 87 T/A,I have a 350 with a mild cam and 305 heads on the 350, but they have bigger valves so i don't have ridiculous compresion. The heads basically make my motor choke at higher RPM'S. I'm thinking of doing heads and wondering what are a good set, also my question is between the Accel super ram and the tpis mini ram. I have an edelbrock intake manifold now, and i'm debating whats best for my car. I talked to both the guys at accel and tpis. The tpis company talks about great horsepower gains, but the accel guys talk about the torque and how its needed. Also theres a differance in price too. Most people say the accel one but i'm looking for advice basically. Other mods are air foil, headers into the flowmaster 3inch catback set up and a 700r4 with a 1200 stall convertor and 3.42 gears in the rear. So if someone could share some knowledge with me i would appreciate it. Also any other mods i could use. My car runs a 14.6 at 94mph, the biggest things are definitely the heads, fuel wise i'm all set. Thanks alot Chris

My recommendation would be to keep your Edelbrock base, purchase some Arizona Speed & Marine runners, port your plenum and get a 52mm T-body. Next get a Corvette torque converter and if they're in your budget,a set of AFR 180 cc heads. This combo should get your TA into the low 13's to high 12's. I should know, thats what I ran with it.

heres the dilio. i hear a lot of guys talking about how great the Miniram is and how its better then the Super Ram and all this crap. To really get to whats better, you have to go to the application that the intake will be used on. Will the car be primarly driven on the street and raced at the track every once in a while? Or will it be raced a lot more then its driven on the street. If you chose option #1, go with the Super Ram. It has a heck of a lot more torque then the miniram can offer, which is what you need for stop light to stop light racing. If you run at the track a lot or want high RPM horse power like option #2, then run the Miniram. Its short runner design operates somewhat like a LT1 intake in that it can provide more high RPM horse at the sacrifice of torque.
As for heads, ditch those POS 305 heads FAST! i dont know why this myth of the 305 being a good head for a 350 persits. Its a junk head just like any stock head, and it limits what valve size you can run because it has the valves spaced closer together. They arent good torque heads or anything so screw them. As for the AFR heads, a lot of guys swear by them, but the efficency number I have seen from them aren't impressive. Id got with some Dart Iron Eagles or if you can afford it, one of the best SBC heads is the Brodix Smokey Yunik Signature series head. That head has awesome flow numbers, can be ported out to insane CC's if you need it, and has the best overall effieceny rating i have heard of.
As for a torque converter, no offence, but a Vette converter? A stock vette converter? why? how? where? If you had the option and the cash to run a converter, why would you pick a stock one? as for you car CMP87, id run a vigilante converter for sure, they are pretty much the best available. Id be looking within a 2,500-2,800 stall range. That should help you out a lot. Good luck man. Need any more info, email me.

Rossler Trans - 330/530-5000. Also if you have any money in your budget, have your heads pocket ported. The exhaust side really wakes up with a little work.If you plan on staying with the TBI set-up,be conservative on the cam. Something like a Comp Extreme Energy 212/218@.050.
