anyone using comp cams 280H???????

I got one for free and was just wondering the performance gains i would get with the stock manifold and exhaust manifolds. other mods include edlebrock 1405 600cfm and vac advance dist.

considering how little a cam cost i don't think i'd run a used cam, unless i trusted the guy i got it from. you'll see some gains, but to make it work well you need to use headers and a better intake. i'd clean up the pots and change springs while i was at it.

The comp cam 280 has a very rough idle. U need a torque converter, exhaust, intake manifold & gears! stock componets with this cam wont cut it bro!

I love my 292H cam from COMP Cams. But you need alot of extras to make it fast off the line. These cams are intended for the 1/4 mile mostly. Lots of gas used if you are city driving. Also that little 600 CFM carb will choke your engine. Second hand cams...I am strongly against. To many people don't know how to properly break a cam in, or they get a second hand one and don't replace the lifters and it can acctually grind some of the cam lobes down quite a bit. $100 for a cam is peanuts for the performance it increases. BTW once that cam is in there such pains to take out if something goes wrong. Internal components in my opinion should ALWAYS be new. Carbs, manifolds and heads are the only major engine components I would buy used.

IMO you would lose a lot of power if you were to install that cam with your current setup. I've got everything to work with mine except heads and I still think my car is a dog. Well, compared to a seriously fast third gen anyway Can't wait to get some AFR's on this bad boy! hehe, but really, listen to these guys, they're right.
