No question, just my opinion

I want to point out how you can generally tell if a product is good or not.
  • Does the company specialize in this area?
  • Is the company new or just a branch?
  • Do they offer something "new" but have never dipped into the field until just recently?
I see a lot of people posting questions about products from companies that you should know better. Edelbrock makes GREAT intake manifolds, it's what they started doing and it's what they're really good at. Holley is also really good. Just recently edelbrock started making wheels. This is cool because it is something that isn't exactly a hard thing to do. They have plenty of money invested and it's all about the tools. What I don't understand is why people will pick edelbrock for things like waterpumps, nitrous kits, some suspension equipment, and cam shafts. There are a lot of companies that specialize in these areas and are about the same price. I'm not saying edelbrock stuff is crap, I'm just saying that they aren't very good unless you go "their way" with a power package blah blah blah. Crane cams, Stewart waterpumps, Spohn, Koni, Bilstien, etc. all are specialized. These are the kinds of companies you want to work with. You can call them up and ask questions about YOUR car and they'll have answers. I have had really bad luck with Edelbrock. The best thing they have for ME is the 3 point strut tower brace, I'll give them that. They also have awesome intakes but what is up with everybody getting their waterpumps? As if they're the only company that makes reverse flow!
As for "power packages," there is nothing wrong with that, don't get me wrong. They have done a lot of research but what if you already have springs, or a cam. Would they be able to tell you what else you should get?
I think this might have turned into an anti Edelbrock and I'm sorry if it looks like that. Personally I have an Edelbrock intake and STB. They are good for a lot of things but not everything. Another little peeve of mine is how people post on this board.
I wish people would post more general questions. Example:
"Is the edelbrock ...... good?" When if they want a good reply they should ask: "What is a good ...... for ~$150?" These are the kinds of questions I like to reply too. It will be more productive. Those kinds of posts will have lots of information to make an educated decision.
No need to reply to this and if the moderator feels like closing the post I won't have a problem just please don't delete.

I believe Ultra is making the rims for Edelbrock.

Yep, Ultra makes the wheels.

Carter designed their carb.

I know what you are saying. Holley carbs rule, but why are they trying to get into the EFI scene? I'm puting a 355 in my RS and I called them to see if their 670 cfm TB that they advertise for trucks, would work on my car, you know, like wire in correctly and all that. They told me "NO". Plus they said it would only support about 270hp at the crank. Sorry but 670 cfm should easily run 350hp. Well then I read on here from you guys that it'll work. Some of you have used them. FastBroker you have one right, or maybe it's someone else. But I think Holley wanted me to buy the Pro-Jection system. Too rich for my blood, but that is what THEY know will work.

But yea, I feel the same way. Buy what you know will work, from a company that specializes in that item, AND that the people who sell it KNOW STUFF ABOUT IT and can help you.

I respect the posts here because a lot of us are do-it-yourselfers. Like I found out here that SLP's y-pipe doesn't line up with the headers like it's supposed to. Well to me that sounds like they didn't do their homework very well. That doesn't give me a lot of confidence in buying something of theirs, no matter what it is. Plus I doubt if I could afford it anyway .

I guess I'm beating on a dead horse. I'll shut up now.

Car: 1989 trans am clone
Engine: 2.8 v6
Transmission: t5
Axle/Gears: 3.72
Re: No question, just my opinion

My 1989 trans am clone with the 2.8 v6 tops out at 120. I replaced the distributer and the plugs with some ac delco rapid fire spark plugs and new wires. Otherwise I haven't made any mods to it. I can get up to highway speed in about 8 seconds and I can get to 100 in about 14 seconds. It accellerates faster than my 88 dakota. It takes 33 seconds from 0-60. Just stick with the 2.8. There light and really fun. I can pop the clutch on mine and the tires spin for 100 feet and then i slam it in second and it squeels them again for another 50 feet. A 2.8 is a good motor. As soon as I get the money I'm going to put a turbo on it.

You posted this in a 17 year old thread , and seem to be defending the V6 even though no one dissed it , why ?

I always wonder why people are only buying the rims too, not entire, complete, wheels
