cam help!!!

i have a LB9 305. like any other 305 owner, i wanna make it faster. i know 305's are not too cam sensetive, and needa a more radical cam to perform because of the small bore. i was wondering what the best power combo would be. (I'm on a budget). I've been looking at GM LT4 kit. LT4 hotcam .525/.525 lift with matching springs retainers, etc. Will that work good. I've seen it done in a camaro magazine with a 305, but all i know is tat they ran 13.02 on Lt4 hotcam. I don't know what else they had in it. thanx Aaron

The LT4 hotcam is way too big for a 305. It's a pretty wild cam in a 350, let alone a 305. They are easy to overcam. I'm guessing it's a roller block since you were looking at the LT4 hotcam. I think CompCams makes an XE262 in a roller version (possibly XE262HR?) but I'm not sure. If not I would look for something like the 262 in terms of lift and duration. The XE262 is a great choice for a 305. I wouldn't reccomend anything bigger unless it was a strip only car (but you would probably have a 350 or bigger then...)

respond

hey. i read an article on 305's that say that for best performance... the 305 needs a high lift cam. max lift recomended was .530/.540. with very good springs. i know the LT4 has good daily driver specs and works great with a 2400 converter. after reading that articel and you're response... I'm confused

that's toomuch cam for that lil motor. (lt4hotcam)

if your running a tuned port motor, Comp has some specific cams for them. your best all around choice would be one of them.

i'd think the best one for what you wanna do is something on the lines of their part number.
08-302-8 specs on it are

210/220 @ .480/.480 lift with a 112 lobe sep angle.

the grind number is CC264hr-12.

That's a smidge bigger, and definitly more agreesive than the L98 cams and bigger and more aggressive than the regular lt4 cam.

same 2200 stall converter should do you just fine. a lil computer monkeying to get it running the way you want and your set.

A ZZ4 cam would be a good choice for a 305. You would definately have to change the stock springs out. You can get a ZZ4 cam for $175 from Scoggin Dickey.
