I am running a comp cams XR274R solid roller, the specs are 236* intake, 242* exhaust, .564" intake, .570"exhaust with 1.52 rockers, and ground on a 110* lsa. I will be switching to 1.6 rockers to see if I can make any more gains. I am still playing with the timing and the fuel pressure and trying to squeze alittle more out of the motor, it is running very rich!

I'll be planning on using it for cruising and the strip. It won't be a daily driver by anymeans! i don't think the choppy 1100 rpm idle would be very comfortable driving to work every day! But it will be very streetable and runs on pump gas. But it is alout tamer then you'd think, although I think the fuel injection helps a bunch with that!

its not the streetability i was questioning it was the fact that solid roller's aren't made for daily driving. My friend drove about 300 miles on his and it chewed the lobes and roller lifters. It was a very expensive setup even though it was a ford setup i hated to see it self destruct like that. I think its a great setup but I would look into this unless you know it will survive. Comp cams will tell you the same thing.

I was wondering about a 400 block with Fast Burn heads and a HOT cam. Instead of a Fast Burn 385, it would be a Fast Burn 400. Can you imagine the torque from that monster?

Unfortunately my 383 broke a rod so I'm in the process of replacing it with a 406. The plan is to use the stock crank,
6" steel rods and forged flat top pistons.

I will be reusing the cam from the 383. It's a Comp XE solid roller
248/248@.050, .614/.614 lift with 1.6 rockers and ground on a 112 lsa 4 degs advance. Believe it or not, this cam had an outstanding idle with a very strong mid range and pulled solidly up to 6500. Prior to using this cam in the 383, I had another Comp XE solid 236/242@.050, .603/.608 112 lsa 4 degs adv.
The split duration cam although smaller, idled rougher and made peak HP at 7000 vs. the larger single pattern that made peak HP at 6500.

I don't think I will have any reliability issues with the solid roller. Comp advised me that as long as I keep a close I on making sure the lash is always adjusted properly I should have no more problems then I hydraulic setup. I guess time will tell! But I won't be planning on any big trips with it, so I'm not concerned!
