Ford 9"

Ok, ok! I want to put a Ford 9" on my 1988 IROC, and forbid i put a Ford product on my Chevy, but they're cheap and very strong. And I also want to change my gear ratio that is a miserable 2.77:1 to maybe around 3.42:1 to 3.60:1, somewhere aroung there. Unfortunately I can't change the gears my self and they cost about $800 bucks to a $1000 to install, so getting a rear and is cheaper, especially for a stronger one! Well my question is will a Ford 9" bolt right up to my 1988 IROC. If it wont bolt right up (I'm guessing because of length differences) what can I do to make it work! Thanks alot!

There are companies that sell direct bolt in applications for Camaro's and Firebirds. Check Moser or Currie for prices. I think they are around $2000. They also sell 12 bolt rearends for our cars too.

No, a 9 inch will not bolt right up. 9 inch rears are leaf spring rear ends. You will need to have some fabrication work done on it so you can mount your panhard bar, lower control arms and torque arm. And if you need to cut it down to fit, there is more money you need to spend. If you look at Currie and Moser(I think) they have 9 inch packages for our cars but you gonna pay over 2k for it.

Also, it should not cost $1000 to change the gears in your car. If someone is charging that much, find a new shop! You can also look for another rear for your car with the gears you want already installed. Rears from a junk yard are about 150-200 bucks(just an alternative).

Basically what I'm saying is you are going to pay out the *** to get this thing to work in your F-body and there are cheaper alternatives to "making" a 9 inch work.

Hope that helps.

If you have 2.77 gears, you have a 9 bolt which is plenty strong for most applications. You can upgrade your 9 bolt with a new posi carrier, gear set (3.2x-4.1x) and install kit for ~850. Another 150-200 installation. Half the price of a 9 inch. More info is at www.9bolt.com

I got a 9 inch put in my car. Cost around 2G it's very strong but the guy that did it I would like to know kill. It is so noisy and around sharp corners it gets worse. He says it's how he has the clucthes set up. I know there was alot of manufactoring to make it work so i give him credit for that. I would advise you to go to a company and get a direct bolt in from like Currie or Strange.
