T-5 shifters, which one?: Hurst, B&M, Pro 5.0

I've been searching around for a new shifter and found 3 main brands. Hurst, B&M, and Pro 5.0. All three of these brands have similar attributes, all claim basically the same thing. I was just wondering if anyone has personal experience with these, and which they perfer. Thanks.

I have a 1990 formula with a t-5. i purchased a b&m ripper shifter. it made a BIG differance. since then they offer a ripper with adjustable shift stop points.my buddy has a pro 5.0. its nice cause the shifter handle can adust height-wise. so its basically its up to your preferance. hopefully i was some help.

The Hurst shifters these days aren't what they used to be. I have broken 2 Hurst T5 shifters so far. The base is cast, so it is a little weak. The Pro 5.0 base is CNC billet, so it is strong as hell. The shifter handle is steel, so again, bullit proof. I have a Pro 5.0 now, and I love it. The handle was too tall, so I had to cut it down, but thats ok. I don't know anything about B&M, so I can't comment on that one.

My two cents: Pro 5.0 is the best.

I love my Pro 5.0 and will never look at another shifter. It is built to withstand anything you can throw at it and has a removably handle so that you can modify it or what not. Its shifts are so precise and has a great positive feel to it with zero slop.

How hard is it to install a new shifter?

i have the b&m ripper with the adjustable shift stops. after 2 broken factory shifters, 3 sets of broken shift forks, and a bent slider assembly, the ripper was a godsend. i love it and prefer it over the pro 5.0. the pro let the shifter go too far forward to suit my needs, but the ripper fits me perfectly. either are a vast improvement over stock...but my preference would be the ripper.

If you set the stops right this isn't a problem. When my car is in neutral I literally only have to move the shifter and inch or so to get it into gear and to hit the stop. The throws are very short.

As for the install: It is very easy and raight forward. You just take out the center console and go from there. Others have done it without removing the console but I could not get the base rubber housing off with it in the way. Very striaght forward none the less and took me maybe an hour.

I run Pro 5.0s on everything I own. Can't say enough nice things about them. I've never missed a gear with one. The durability is amazing. A friend of mine has one on his Cobra with over 50,000 miles of use and it's still as tight and precise as day one.

I agree Pro 5.0 is awesome. Short throws, precise throws, and stops...

B&M, and Pro 5.0 are great shifters, but I dont like the hurst (personal preference).

I loved my B&M shifter when I had my t-5 in the car, looked good and felt good (very solid) but I hear now they don't come with the stops, so that my be one thing to think about. I wish I went with the the B&M for my t-56 instead of the pro 5.0 though, I don't care for it much at all.

When I installed the T56 I installed a ripper shifter at the same time. Never used the stock shifter, but wow. Honestly this is the only aftermarket shifter I have ever used, but I cant really imagine the others being much better. Dont think I could miss third if I tried. I have thought of throwing the stock one on there just to see the difference some time. lol

5.0 is like 50.00 more than the ripper and hurst. also hurst comes with a shift ****

the ripper and hurst come with more options, at least in the description given by summit and thunder

I never really saw the need for options on a shifter. The Pro 5.0 is perfect out of the box. All that it needs is to have the stops adjusted. I like the Pro 5.0 because it is indestructable. Everything in it is made from billet. The base is billet aluminum and very thick. The stop ring is billet steel, as is the mechanism and the stick. It will never wear out, and never break.

Some shifters have an adjustable location on the trans to try and position the stick in a better location for your hand. I never needed this with a Pro 5.0 though. If I sit in my seat in normal driving position and just drop my right hand to the console the ball is right in the middle of my hand. It couldn't be more natural. Obviously other people are built differently than I am, so I can't say this will be the case for everyone, but it sure is for me.

Ultimately I think that as long as you buy a shifter of high quality you will be happy. I don't doubt that the B&M and Hurst are quality products. I've never had a problem with products from either company before, and I've used many over the years. I just feel that in this case you get what you pay for, and the Pro 5.0 is a higher quality part in terms of materials.

I really would like to try the pro 5.0, but I know that my ripper also has the billit base and stainless handle. It is also thick and beefy like that. I think I would be happy with either, but I can say for sure I am happy w/ the ripper.

I have a Hurst on my T-56, but I have driven cars with the 5.0 and the B&M, and I prefer the 5.0. It just feels most solid when you powershift. All are similar in that they are a HUGE improvement over stock, much shorter throws and much more solid and "connected" feel. I went for the Hurst because of the history of the company. Personal preference, really.

b&m makes a shifter called the ripper, but I've never heard of a pro ripper.
From having a pro 5.0, all I can say is they are art. It's the damn finest shifter I've seen of something mass produced. I got a good deal on mine from ebay.

You will have to contact someone at any vendor and set-up it up with them. They will tell you how many people you need before they will cut some of the price. After that you can tell your moderator to make it a sticky so that people know there is a group purchase going on and not just skipp over this thread.

Getting my hurst shifter today from Jegs and I am excited 'bout it. After talking to Shifty I figure it might not be as "manly" as the 5.0 but I just want it better than stock and I hat missing 3rd gear.
