need help on a cam choice
Sorry I'm not sure this is the right forum. I have an 87 trans am 305 tpi with a 700r4. I need to make low end power all i have is a cold air intake and the throttle body coolant bypass trick. I need a good cam choice to make low end power. I don't really care about a rough idle. Also any other good choices on mods to make more low end?

Are you going to make any other mods at the same time as the cam?
I suggest headers and underdrive pullies at a minimum.

hey, a great cam for your motor would be the GM ramjet 350 crate motor cam. 196/206 duration @0.050 and .431/.451 lift. works good on a 305, especially well with tpi. great amounts of torque from 1500-3000..... at least on mine it was. u can get this cam from scoggin dickey (sdpc2000.com) for $135.00 i believe. this is a roller cam. i'm not sure if yours is a roller motor or not, but if it is, buy this cam!!! btw, i got myself a set of march underdrive pulleys off of the web for 45 bucks plus shipping. definately a power gain felt on my car, and picked up another 2 mpg on the highway. great buy. o, and slp has their 91.5" belt on sale for 10 bucks. my car needed the 91.5" belt, as yours might as well.

well, u gotta remember. all of those rating as far as rpm range are set standard assuming the engine size is a 350 small block. for a 305, u can add about 300-500 rpm over top of a 350. don't know why, but this is what i've always heard.
anyway though, i have the ramjet cam in my 305 with freshened and lightly ported 305 lb9 heads. it'll spin to 5500 pretty easily with stock small tubed tpi, BUT it stops making power at about 5000 and slowly loses power untill it shifts at 5500. i'd say it's theperfect cam choice to make your virtually stock 305 get some nice power gains. that huge torque numbers easily make up for thelack of power above 5000 rpm. u can't beat the price either

gaskets for the timing chain cover, a new timing chain is a nice choice, and some cam lube. well, to think about it. i have a roller cam with less than 500 miles on it that i used to break in my 305 when i rebuilt it. .420/.434 lift and 199/210 duration @.050 i had it custom ground. if you're interested i can give it to ya for 50 bucks. billet roller cam. let me know.

well, 50 bucks plus shipping, which should be around 15 bucks to have it 2 day shipped. it's going to take an odd shaped box. the cam has been sitting in my garage for around a year, so u might want to take 2200 grit auto paper to make sure every part of the cam is free of any dirt or whatnot.
