Why cant you port the aluminum yourself?? The metal is
very soft .. and doesnt require heavy hardware to do it ..
Pneumatic/eletric grinder or a little dremel will get it done.

Basically draw a outline of what you want to grind away, and
gasket match it to the size. There is a good DIY porting thread
somewhere here on Thirdgen.org, Its well done too.

But if you dont have the time, I understand that too

You may want to check out SPD Porting. He offers a package deal on porting the top end of our TPI's. I was thinking about doing this ofr my car after it gets painted this month.

corvette plenum looks very professional.. check the images on his website... however he does seem grossly overpriced IMO.

Hey, I think he does nice work. If I do say so myself. TPIS is not as nice or thorough as my work. That's how I got started. I looked at what was out there and said "I can do better than that" Ever hear,"You get what you pay for"? Alot of my cutomers tell me I should charge more! I am trying to achieve a balance between turning a profit and spending all my free time chopping plenums.-Mike

Ps. I don't actually make that much, If you see what they look like when I get them and what they turn into-Well, They don't port themselves!

FWIW I looked at the SLP runners on that site, compared the work against how long it would take me to do it, and came out behind doing it myself...plus I hate aluminum dust in my hair/nose/mouth or all over the shop. For $100 to get the SLPs done that's only a bad deal to people who have far more time than I do. I learned porting the crap out of my plenum that I wouldn't want to do it all that often. Hell, ever again if I can avoid it. If people don't like the price, they can man up and grab the grinder.

Nike (edit: Mike, durrr): Am I correct in assuming that corvetteplenum is your venture? Forgive me as I've been up all night. If so, kudos to you.

What kind of gains, if any, would be seen on a stock lb9 if you ported the plenum/runners?

well I for one am not complaining, I'm just cheap I intend to get some work done by this gentlemen this year.

a mack6- IMO, gains would be minimal on a stock 305 motor.., however it would pay for itself any time you make an improvment. A modded one like mine would definatly see benefits, and it would be absolutly nessessary on a 350, modded or not.

mike graycar - any chance on a discount for third gen members, or perhaps a reduced rate if we get a 'group' purchase together.. ?

FWIW I wasn't directing what I said at you in any way. I was replying in general. Didn't want anyone to be over that. heh

Mike, might be a stupid question but: how difficult is it to remove the plenum? I like this 'mod' because its something that no one would ever know was done, and would seem 100% stock from the outside (something thats important on a rare car), but i'm not that mechanically inclined [yet] and i'm just wondering what is it like to remove the plenum??

A Mack6, It's easy. Probably one of the easiest things that you can do with hand tools that can render your car inoperable! Seriously, Do a search or I will walk you through it. The plenum is wedge shaped and drops in snug between the runners. The worst part is modifying the gaskets.

You want sleeper? TPIS runners look just like stock runners only a little bigger. Ported plenum, Aftermarket baseplate (dirty it up before it goes on) an LPE 219 cam and maybe a little head work. Learn to burn your own chips. Heell ! there's a guy on eBay who will bore your stock TB oversize. Looking and sounding stock, That would be a real punch in the junk for the LS-1 guys!

There is a thread on here called "12.99 with stock heads, cam, ect." Don't know if he made it but he was getting close.

That sounds awesome. Unfortunately theres no way i'll be able to do it this summer (picking up my new car this Friday!!!!! but it means that i will have no money left). I starting my college career at University of Pittsburgh august 23rd, so ill only have a few weeks to save up some money before i head out to college, and i have to take care of some nessacaties first:
-Buying the car out of state so i need to get it inspected here
-It still has original tires so it will need tires soon
-Window Tint (need to keep the interior cool)
-T-top Sunshades
-And various other stuff that i dont need, but realyl want (NCAA 07 for PS2, BF2 for PC)

I dont want to jynx anything, but i really hope your still gonna be in business next spring so i can get this stuff done! ill have to keep your website bookmarked until then!

ummm. I thought the runners couldn't be ported? Obviously you can port the ends of the tubes on both ends but theres no way you can do it in the middle of the bend which still becomes the restrictive part of the intake. I thought your only option was to buy aftermarket runners.

question about porting

This question is for anybody that can answer it. I have a 89 formula 350 with 52mm bbk throttle body and slp intake runners. I have not seen an improvement. I also have the cold air intake from slp, edelbrock TES headers, Jet stage 2 chip (piggyback), dual cats (which are more of a pain in the butt!!), and 2 1/2" cat back. I had the throttle body and runners put on at the same time and i didnt see any improvement. anybody got ideas? comments???

Yeah, You need to port your plenum. The inlets are only only 48mm and then they neck down even smaller. The outlets are only 1.475 inches. Right now your plenum is acting as a restrictor plate! Port that puppy!!!

Maybe get a custom tuned chip from somebody.YoU HAVE maf correct?Fast chip or even do it yourself.I've never heard anything good about jets chips. The custom tune may help take advantage of all your upgrades ESPECIALLY after you port the plenum because its deffinatly a restriction.
