Summit mini starter

Anyone have one? I just got ready to drive my 82 for the third time since the engine swap, but after cranking over twice the starter died. The bendix will still move, but the starter motor is toast- even jumping the solenoid from the battery lead does nothing. This thing had about 20 min cranking time on it. It was marked with an sri on the mounting block. Anyone elsi have trounble with these, as I have had good luck with outher summit products

Yeah, they're junk! My first one lasted 3 months and second one lasted almost a year. I had the first rebuilt by a local rebuilder and it's still going strong a year later. You may want to try going that route.

It was $40 but it would depend on what the problem exactly is.

Well, I just took the starter off the car and hooked it up to a charger, jumped the solenoid from the +, and she spun over. I then decided to take it apart to check the internals-everything looked ok, so I reassembled it and put it back in. No problems whatsoever. WTF? I know for sure it was a problem with the starter in the first place because it tested it the exact same way when it was bolted in the car and again when it was on the workbench. I didn't take it completely apart, just took the motor out of the casing. Now I'm wondering if there is a broken tooth or something floating around in there

i run the high torque mini starter that summit sells as the summit brand. i've had it on the car for 3 years with no problems at all. it has more crankover power and it's smaller and lighter.
