Re: halo headlights

I think I'd like those if the halo was available in white. I wonder what it takes to change it.

Re: halo headlights

If you want the halo in white so it doesn't show, just don't hook up the wires for the halo.

Re: halo headlights

they look like cheap ebay conversions, just with the halo rings, im sure if you got a set and reaaallly wanted the white halo rings somebody would make a different color ring Im sick of the factory sealed beams but i havent got the patience or time to try and work a different set of driving lights unfortunately

it looks like the halo ring's color can be changed by just adding a different light to it.

Yeah, I did some digging and it looks like the "halo" is illuminated with a pair of 194 bulbs. The 3 colors are just bulb condoms that come with the lights. I should be able to just go, um, bareback () and get a white halo. I found these cheap on ebay, I may order a set just to see if they look like junk or not. I'm not sure how the halo would look on a 4 headlight car... do I just put halos on the outside, or do I do all 4?

I may skip the halo idea and just go back to my plan of the diamond clear lenses with some H1 and H4 bulbs.

Re: halo headlights

Try these out. Best you can buy. Not nock-off's by a long shot And believe you me, they put a brighter light off in my third gen, then the lights in my brand new malibu with the same H.I.D bulb.

Heres the pics from a guy on this forum. These pics are what turned me on to them.

Re: halo headlights

Yea, i agree with you on the price. There out of this world, but in this world, you get what you pay for. I had "The cheap knock off's" on my camaro. The lighting that was given out from the knock-of was not even close to these. The biggest part to me was the look. Take a good look at the pics that ive provided, compared to the cheap ones, side by side, the quality of these are absolutely unmatched. I like the knock-offs, dont get me wrong, but after seeing the manufactoring, and performence quality of these, i would buy another set if i had to. Im not a big persone on cutting corners, or looking for the least expensive part for my Camaro because quality is what matters most to me. If i have to pay a little, or even a lot more to get something that looks, and performes with better quality, then i just wont buy it at all until i can afford the quality way togo. These are the little things on our cars tht add up to be huge differences between other guys's cars. Quality makes a big difference when sitting next to one another. Sorry guys, just thinking out loud....LOL!

Re: halo headlights

So whats the deal with these lights? Is there any pics of some (with the colored ring) on a 3rd gen? Also how would these work? When you turn your lights on does it automatically light up red or whatever? And does the colors affect the light projection or whatever?

Re: halo headlights

I have the first ones posted from ebay. They use 4 LED's that are blue, so no color option unless you part the housings and swap in whatever LED color you want. I had 2 of the 4 housings LED's stop functioning initially, and the guy just sent me 2 more housings. I looked at the non-functioning ones later to find that the resistors are what broke, and a simple cheap fix for 2 extra free housings for me! The Pilot ones probably are brighter and do have the color option with the different covers, and do look to use 194 bulbs. They are more of a "true" halo than mine because mine don't have a separation between the halo and the rest of the housing like the Pilot ones do. And for the pics...

Re: halo headlights

fast82z I have a question. in that first pic are your headlights on? I'm confused if that's what they really look like or when you turn them on does the color go away and the headlight activate? lol sorry I'm just very confused/interested in these. I think the blue looks amazing

Re: halo headlights

The first picture is the halos only, and the second is with the headlights and the halos on. Since the halos are also in the same area as the light from the headlights, you basically don't see the halos with the headlights on cause they aren't bright enough. That's why I think the Pilot ones would probably work better because they should be brighter with the bulbs they use, and they'll be more of a true halo because of the separation in the housing.

Re: halo headlights

fast82z: So how's the actual headlight part of this? Better than stock? Better than Silverstars? And is it possible (without too much modding) to put better bulbs in than whatever it comes with?

Re: halo headlights

With the Pilots, mine originally came with no bulbs, I used a set of Wagner Tru View bulbs and have no issues.

I had to modify the buckets the lights fit in to accommodate the large rubber boot on the back of the headlight housing.

Left is a stock bucket, and a modified one on the right.

Are the halos on like a toggle switch or something like that? Or are they set up with the driving lights?

Re: halo headlights

For the Pilots, you can hook them up any way you like, I have mine on two relays, one turns them on with the park lights and the other turns them off with the headlights. The halos have their own positive and negative leads connected to the 194 bulb sockets. I'm sure the others are made similar...

Re: halo headlights

The beam pattern could definitely be better than the ones I have, but I don't really drive it in the dark since I trailor it to and from the dragstrip and don't really drive it any other time. The bulbs these housings use are 9003's or H4's, same thing either way. The plugs are the same as the stock sealed beams, but with a different pattern to the terminals. Since they take 9003 bulbs, you can put an HID conversion kit into them too. The halos just have a power and ground, you can wire them however you want. My halos happen to be on their own switch. I also had a set of Pilot housings without the halos that didn't require any mods to the headlight buckets, but most housings will require the modification shown above.

Re: halo headlights

Update:

I bought a pair of the halo lights, along with a pair of the regular "eurolite" crystal lights. The halos are illuminated by a pair of 194s. This kit happened to come with blue bulbs, but since they're just 194s, they're easily changable. If I decide to use them (not likely), I'd probably find some 194 LEDs that are a good color match to the Silverstars that I intended to run in the lights.

But... now I'm chasing a higher quality, true HID option, so I'm probably going to be reselling these lights.

Re: halo headlights

I was thinkin about grttin those eBay ones that had the 3color halo. And hooking the halo lights itself to my marker lights. That way when my markers come on the halos come on. I was also thinkin about when I use my blinkers and haven those flash when I turn too, would you think that would cause the bulbs to go out too much quicker then if I just had them on a toggle switch?

Re: halo headlights

The stock headlights (dims) suck. Can't see very far ahead at all. Can anyone who has them talk about their results? Which kit and how well do they work? I would want strictly white. I really don't want to change the look much, I just want good low beam performance.

Here's the Amazon ones for Camaros. My car is an 88 IROC-Z

Sylvania Silverstars are a direct drop-in, much cheaper the HIDs & work very good.

I live way out in BFE where it is DARK & always deer & crap on the road. They've always served me well.

Not saying HIDs wouldn't be better, I just can't justify the price as being THAT much better, for me to go buy HIDs.

Re: halo headlights

The Amazon ones I looked up were only at $55. That wouldn't be bad for a significant improvement. I don't want that crazy color around it though. That halo thing.

How much of an improvement over stock are the Silverstars you speak of?

Re: halo headlights

I had the silverstars. They were a definite improvement over stock. Then I rewired my lights throught relays rather than through the headlamp switch and that made a really bid difference for me.
In the pics there is one light on the original circuit and the brighter one is through the relay circuit I made. It only cost about $30 to build.

Re: halo headlights

Thank you. Nice to include pictures. Do you still use the stock headlight switch to turn them on and off?
